Question about renting a reservation - Not on dis

Hi.

Just a question for myself, I see on other sites that people have confirmed DVC reservations and then rent them. How can they rent them if they had to reserve with a name? Do they just add other people's names and also have their name on the ressie? If so, wouldn't the DVC person have the ressie on their DVC and then the person that took the ressie see their MDE?

Just something I was wondering really don't care but trying to figure it out, like I have nothing better to do LOL

Most just reserve using their own name. Then they call MS to have it modified to the renter's name when they receive payment.

Unasked for advice: FWIW, I would not send anything other than a small deposit without a reservation in my name that can be linked to MDE unless I knew the person with whom I was dealing. (The owner can always cancel or modify the reservation so he or she still has some protection from renters who don't pay as agreed). If you are trying to rent something that is less than 30 days away, you may need to send full payment right away and be extra careful.

There is a scammer out there who has manage to obtain a legitimate confirmation from an owner and after receiving it, never paid. He cuts and pastes to scam the unsuspecting renter and even managed to provide the name of a legitimate DVC owner for renters to check the Orange County website. Be careful out there!

When I contacted MS thru email, they took care of everything. However, they advised me that any future changes such as adding a night or adding/removing names could no longer be accomplished online. All changes going forward must be done thru MS.

Really? When I made reservation last May for my son, it was his name and everything but I was still able to modify online, including adjusting dates and resort.

That would be a change from how it’s been then. And a doubtful one for them to make. Maybe but if you did need to change something I’d still try online first.
