Question about Refunds with Vacation

Two days ago my grandfather suffered a major stroke. He also has pneumonia and a couple fractured ribs. He is 88 years old and it may be difficult for him to overcome these obstacles.

My question is, if things worsened and we had to cancel our Disney World trip, what would we be able to get back if anything at all?

I know the Disney World resorts require a 5 days notice for cancellation. What about my tickets I bought through Orbitz that have specific dates on them and are already on our MBs? We booked our flights through JetBlue and Southwest. Two different one ways.

As of right now we aren't sure what is going to happen with him. He may recover, he may not.

Anyone else go through something similar? I wouldn't even mind having a credit for a future trip because we will go in the near future but I'm just preparing for the worst. Thanks for any input.

Edit: It might help to mention that our trip is in 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear aobut your GF. Did you book a package or a room only reservation? If it's a package, then there is a $200 cancellation fee. If it's room only, I believe it's the 5 days you mention, and 4 days or less you lose your first night's deposit. To avoid the fees, you can reshedule to a future date. I would jsut pick soemthing way off, like 6 months to a year. Then you can reschedule again to a real date later on.

For your airline tickets: Southwest, you can cancel, and they will issue you a credit for the full cost/no fees, and it has to be used within a year of the date you originally booked (not the date of the flight). Jetblue I think will give you a credit, but they do charge fees (not sure how much). Depending on the fee and how much the ticket was, the credit might not be too much.

Here's a link to the JB cancellation fees:

The tickets will be good forever; until you enter a park. Be sure to keep the magic ID's in a safe place.

Thank you so much. I booked everything separately.

Obviously the best outcome would be for him to recover and we can thoroughly enjoy our first real family vacation. My DS5 & DS3 are looking forward to it so much-I almost thought to send just them and my DH should anything happen but then that would defeat the entire purpose of our family vacation.

I'm not so concerned with losing deposits or adding fees but losing the entire amount is what scares me. Thank you for reassuring me that I'll be able to receive credits at least.

Thank you for that information. I was worried because I know a lot of people had concern about buying the tickets from Orbitz because having to use specific dates.
