SORRY POSTED THIS ON THE WRONG FORUM I THINK AS WELL

Me and my wife are about to sign up for Saratoga Springs and are awaiting the deed and paperwork from Disney. We've been told to start deciding what we want to with our double points. Now our idea is to go to Saratoga Springs for 5 nights, then a 7 day Western Cruise with Disney Cruise Line and then maybe a stay at Vero Beach or return to Disney after this. My question is as we have not received the book with points for all of the resorts I was wondering how many would the cruise part of it be on the 7th April next year?

For your question, this is the correct DVC forum... :thumbsup2

DCL points for 2007 sailings for the 7-day Western varies from 140 pts/person to 428 pts/person depending on stateroom category and dates.

Cat 11: 140 pts Value season, 194 pts Regular season, 227 pts Peak season, and 232 pts Holiday season

Cat 4: 271 pts Value season, 344 pts Regular season, 402 pts Peak season, and 428 pts Holidat season

Cats 10 thru 5 are between the two above listings.

All are points per person, double occupancy. For a 3rd person (adult) the additional points are about 75% of those point quantities listed above. A child is about 55% of the point quantity listed above.

2007 sailing dates are as follows:

Value Season: Jan 13, 27, Sep 8, 22
Regular Season: Feb 10,24; Apr 21; May 5; Oct 6, 20; Nov 3; Dec 1
Peak Season: Mar 10, 24; Dec 15
Holiday Season: Apr 7; Nov 17; Dec 29

To answer your specific question, April 7th is Holiday season. If it's just the two of you then total points would be as follows:
Cat 11: 464 pts (232 pts each)
Cat 10: 492 pts
Cat 9: 548 pts
Cat 8: 576 pts
Cat 7: 672 pts
Cat 6: 698 pts
Cat 5: 724 pts
Cat 4: 856 pts

The 7-day itinerary (subject to change) is:
Sat: Sail from Port Canaveral
Sun: Arrive Key West
Mon: At sea
Tue: Arrive Grand Cayman
Wed: Arrive Cozumel
Thu: At sea
Fri: Arrive Castaway Cay
Sat: Regurn to Port Canaveral

Hope this helps

Double points? You have to remember that when they tell you that you are getting double points when you sign up before next year, because you are getting the "2006" points. But really you are just getting the points that you get no matter when you sign up. If you sign up in feb. then you get feb 2007 points but you would to wait until feb 2008 to get more, but it is the same with december. you still have to wait until december 2007 to get your points again.
If that is what you are referring to by double points then I just figured you should know. If not Sorry for the rambling :confused3 :goodvibes

But either way congrats on your purchase.

Just wanted to say I sent you a PM in case you don't get the popup message.

Why is the cruise per person and the rooms at saratoga or any other vacation homes are per room? Is it because of the food and extra stuff you get? thanks for the info anyway we will still be considering it. Thought it was hardly anything.

We've cruise lots and the cabin price quoted has always been per person. So, it's just the way cruises are.

We've used points for 2 DCL cruises. Best wishes whatever you decide to do with your points.

Bobbi :)

Frankly, seeing the point requirments for the better room catagories was a big disappointment when I started looking into DVC. I was hoping to use our points sometimes for a Disney Cruise. No Dice. It's just too points expensive, especially with a couple kids! I'll be using cash when we take our cruise.

So excited! Booked a 7 night western cruise and a 7 night stay at our home resort at the Saratoga Springs for September. YEH!!!

I agree, unless you just happen to have tons of points and looking for ways to use them.

Actually, I think the OP really did get "double points" which is what I received this summer. They are 2005 (and I joined in July of 2006, so well past 2005) points...so truly "extra", then one month later when my Use Year began, I got my 2006 points. I did not have to pay MFs on the 2005 points at all, and I only had to pay pro-rated MFs for the 2006 points.

As others have said, it is far more cost/point-efficient to pay cash for your cruise than to use points. You can rent/transfer your extra points here on the DIS on the rent/trade board for approx. $10/point. Then you can use that cash to pay for the cruise.

Renting is a hot topic right now. However, we all basically agree that the once-in-a-while renter is not an issue.
