Question about points when cancelling a reservation

I'm new to DVC and had a cancelling question. I'm still trying to understand banking and borrowing and wanted to see if I had this right...

From what I understand if I book a February reservation using 25 current UY points and 25 borrowed points, and have to cancel the reservation... the 25 borrowed points become current UY points, but I can still bank the original 25 points.

Now lets say I have that reservation plus one for March that used 25 current UY points. If I cancel the February reservation, can I call MS and apply the stuck borrowed points to that reservation, and then bank 50 points to the next year?

If you book a February reservation using 25 current UY points and 25 borrowed points, and have to cancel the reservation... the 25 borrowed points will always remain borrowed points (that stay within the UY that they were borrowed into), but you can still bank the 25 current UY points if you are within your banking window (first 8 months of your UY) and cancel more than a month out.

Now lets say you have that reservation plus one for March that used 25 current UY points. It matters quite a bit what your UY month is. If the Feb and March reservations fall inside the same UY (and assuming you made all the reservations with the same home resort points), you would have the option of allocating borrowed pts that were freed up from the canceled Feb reservation into the March reservation, assuming that would free up current UY pts from the March reservation which could then be banked (assuming you are still within your banking window).

But if you have a March UY and cancel your Feb stay after Oct 31 when your banking window is closed, then all pts used for the Feb stay (banked/borrowed/current) cannot be moved to a different UY and will expire if you cannot rebook a stay that ends before that March UY deadline (which obviously would end before your March stay began) - and rebooking might be very difficult on short notice.

And if you used home resort pts to book the March stay within the home resort window, you cannot reallocate non-home resort pts from the Feb stay into that March reservation unless there is still availability for that March stay (not counting the villa you have booked for March).

Remember that if you cancel 30 days or less before the trip, those points become holding status.
