Question about Pick a Pearl

We plan to do this on our upcoming trip. I've already bought each of my girls a carriage pearl cage.

Does anyone know if the oyster survives the opening to remove the pearl? I know without a doubt my 12 year old will be very concerned about this. I'm not sure she'd even participate if this will harm the oyster.

The oysters are already dead. They have been xrayed to confirm there is at least 1 pearl inside and then they are preserved. They shuck the oyster right in half and snap it open, so it will be pretty obvious that they are not alive, IMHO.

Here's some pictures. I don't know but I didn't think they are alive in the tank, I've never seen one move. If they were, I don't think they would survive because the inside is scooped out and I believe thrown out.

Right, this exactly. She is THAT kid, too. Hopefully we can get through it without too much drama.
