question about photopass

We are going to be there in a couple weeks. We are going to be getting the photo pass, we do not have have magic bands. Once you get a on board picture in one of the rides, will it still automatically go right to your app?

Without MBs, you need to make sure that you have Bluetooth enabled on your smartphone and have your MDE account set to use it. That will link the photos to your account.

Make notes of roughly what time you ride each ride, so that if the photos don't show up (occasionally they'll take a day to link), you can send a Lost Photos email to PhotoPass and tell them what time you rode as well as what the riders were wearing, etc. They're very good at finding photos!

I can't say for sure, but pretty sure it needs some sort of location recognition to know to drop your photo in your app...that's one of the features of the magic band. It 'may' work if you are allowing your phone app to register locations, but best to check with Disney direct on that.

For photos taken by a CM, you will be given a plastic card (as far as I know. Someone please correct if this is old as we use MBs.) Each time you have photos taken the CM will scan your plastic card. You will link that card to MDE and your photos will be there.

The cards work for linking photos by tapping - by a CM photographer or at the photo tap points at the end of rides that have them. The cards don’t have the long distance RFID transmitter, though, so they won’t link photos such as from Seven Dwarfs, Haunted Mansion, etc., that don’t have the photo tap points. That’s when MDE and Bluetooth are needed.

I don't have a Magic Band and on my last trip (May 2023) I got ride photos from Splash Mountain (RIP), Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion by having my phone on me. I didn't get my Tron photo at all, I'm assuming because my phone was in a locker.

I second this even if you do have MB. My family of 5 will all be wearing them and sometimes the ride photos just don't autoload.

But, I always have timestamped photos of about when I got onto the ride, even if it's just a blurry photo of a loading area, and in the morning when I inevitably wake up before my kids, I go through and put in missing photo reports for the rides that don't load for us. PP CMs are very good about finding them and loading them into my account within a couple of days.

What a great idea! The most difficult issue I had last time was remembering what time we rode, and I mis-remembered on one of our photos that I especially wanted. The PP CMs are great - they emailed back and asked me whether it might have been a different time, and they were able to find it!

Last week I saw people scanning their ticket on their phone for photopass. We have magic bands, but I did see others use either a card or their phone. Maybe they are trying to phase out the cards?

I don’t think they’re phasing out the cards. The cards are just an option for guests who have neither MB nor smartphone.

But also, on my iPhone, I can scroll down the list of apps I have installed until I find Disney World. When I tap on it to view its settings, I can see that Bluetooth is enabled. I don’t know how to check on Android phones.
