Question about paying cash for extra days?

Can you book a reservation with points, add on extra days and reserve them as a cash reservation, then later when your UY points from another resort become available (7mos from res.) can you change your cash reservation to a points reservation? That way you could use your other resort points to reserve a room during a peak season. Example: 3 nights @ Easter in VWL using points booked 11 mos ahead + 3 nights held as a cash reservation. Then 7mos from dates, change to an all points reservation. Sounds sneaky, but I'd like to know before we buy more points at another resort instead of adding on at VWL. Thanks for your vast knowledge

Rooms with cash are not member inventory. Apples and oranges. If you managed to get a member discounted room, when you cancelled it, if anyone else was on the waitlist, they would get it and not you.

Thanks so much! I guess the only advantage of owning at two resorts is to make reservations at both of them. Is that right?

Right now we have a reservation for Jan with four nights at OKW and four nights at BCV since we didn't have enough points for all eight nights at one resort. We will revise it when we get to 7 months if we can. Otherwise, we move after night 4.

We own at three resorts for the 11 month advantage at those resorts. We have banked and borrowed to have more than our 100 current year points.
