Question about Obama

Exactly - thats the point. You dont see him on the news, or anything for that matter - at all. You can beleive what you want, but we didnt.
And it isnt Louis Farrakhan's endorsment Im so worried about (had you read the link) it his affiliation with his spiritual advisor. We'll leave Louie out of it, for now.

You didn't, some of us did. And he's already talked about his spiritual advisor, many, many times. This isn't "new" news.

I wouldn't have heard of him before were my DH not a politcs nut. However, other than Hillary, McCain, and Edwards, all of whom have campaigned on a national scale previously, I can't claim to have ever heard of any of the other candidates before they started running this time. Reallly, let's see a show of hands of people who'd heard of Mike Huckabee this time last year? Ron Paul?

Besides, what's hearing about someone? In the political world you pretty much never hear about someone unless it's bad. Do you really want someone whose had their name plastered all across the media-verse leading your country?

It is about whom Obama refers to as his spiritual advisor. His words, not mine.

ya and there was a fear that if john kennedy got elected he would do whatever the Pope wanted and the pope would be running the country....:lmao:

I don't really understand the antagonistic posts regarding Obama supporters. It looks like some are looking to start a fight
I'm an Obama supporter. I politely answered the question posted. Sorry if I disappointed anyone by not lambasting you for not liking a candidate for whatever reason. sheesh

I'm confused too. It seems like Gail posted a very simple yes/no question and right away it turned into a fight. :confused3

Think of it this way...If Hillary wasn't Bill's wife....would we have heard of her?

Maybe it's post 12 that caused some confusion. I'm OK, though, with assuming that post was just a yes or no question. It's a good day here. No snow!!!!:goodvibes

In response to OP and Zephyrhawk, I'd heard of Mike Huckabee and Barak Obama before this capaign season.

I have very vague memories of pundits on the news saying his speech caused a stir at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. [I wasn't tuned in to the convo - either convo - AT ALL.]

I had heard of Mike Huckabee's campaign against obesity in Arkansas because he lost like 150 lbs or something. I think I read about this in a woman's magazine when I was at the grocery check-out.

But yet it is still not about Obama. He's not responsible for what his spiritual advisor does. He may not agree with it. Who knows. Don't you have friends who sometimes do things you don't agree with?

To the OP:
It's kind of sad that anyone from Illinois would state they hadn't heard of Obama before he started running for president. I mean, he has been your state's senator for 4 years, now. :confused3

Obama has only been a US senator since January 2005. He has been actively campaigning for president for at least a year. So, he really has only been an active Illinois US senator for about 2 years.

And believe me, I am from Illinois and he was NOT well-known in Illinois until he ran for president. Even during Obama's senatorial campaign, there was more talk about his opponent because the opponent had a scandal and had to drop out. After his election to the US senate, Obama vanished from the local papers (and of course moved to D.C.) and we really didn't hear anything about him until his name was put out there as a possible presidential nominee.

That's just it, Miss J...he's addressed it MANY times, doing exactly what you mentioned and saying that he (the pastor) has some views he disagrees with. People just don't want to hear it, as it gives them something to "bash" him about.

So, I guess the 70% of the voting public that elected him to the Senate in 2004 were just picking the guy with the funny name? :confused3

Thanks, I really didn't know ( I don't follow his campaign THAT closely). The fact that it was a Newsmax article as well...

I am officially going on record:

I am from Illinois. I have heard of Obama even before his speech at the Democratic National Convention. He was well known to some Chicagoans during his run for Illinois Senate. Not everyone in Illinois was unaware of Obama before this.

Phew, had to get that out there.:rotfl:

We sure did. We're located towards the NW corner of the state. I know a lot of people who've met the guy at various 'town meeting' type situations - he used to spend quite a good amount of time hitting the towns around the state, iirc he had one day a week alloted to traveling the state and meeting his constituents, but I could be misremembering the frequency.

And they even ran that story here in Illinois!;)
