Now that the screening is at the resort monorail stops what if your using the monorail to go from the poly to the contemporary and want to bring a selfie stick or something else that is not allowed into magic kingdom. Are you now not able to bring them to resorts if your mode of transportation is the monorail?

The monorails have different two boarding areas, one for resorts, and one for parks. So my guess is that only the ones going to the parks will have security checks.

Sounds like another "gotcha" they didn't fully think through before changing a major procedure.

Thats what it sounds like to me...If im going to Chef Mickeys or something like that maybe i want a selfie stick. who knows. but then if they allow it then you can bring it to MK. oops

I would prefer that selfie sticks be banned from Property not just the Parks.

My visit to Chef Mickey's was not as enjoyable as it could have been, because the table next to us had a selfie stick. Not only did they hit the servers more than once with it, EVERY SINGLE TIME the Characters came to OUR table to greet our DD, this stupid idiot of a man was trying to use his selfie stick to get more photos of the Characters!!!! DUDE. Wait your turn, they will turn around and come to your table too! Geeeeeeeez. Instead all my family's First Visit to Chef Mickey's photos ALL have this dumb selfie stick family in our photos! And most have the Selfie Stick Dad in them. I don't mind funny photobombers from PhotoPass or whatever, but a Character Breakfast???? I wish I had been able to have him hit me with the stick so I could knock hot gravy in his lap... or at least on his camera! Too bad the servers were all just like, "Excuse me sir" - no he assaulted you with a Selfie Stick! Go get security! But nooooooooooooooo...

Selfie sticks aside (as they just become a hot-button debate item when mentioned...)
There are other items that can't be taken into MK that would be just fine to be carried on the monorail.

Another aspect of this is that guests visiting/dining at MK monorail resorts may need to park at TTC to connect with the desired resort.

If a guest visiting the resort happens to buy something at that resort that is not allowed into MK (even though that guest is not actually headed to MK) would be in a tough situation when trying to return to her/his car at TTC using the monorail.

yea i just used that as an example

I think they should just implement something where there's signage before, letting you know selfie sticks are banned from the parks. Then at security for TTC/monorail resorts they don't care if they see you with one, but again, warn you if you happen to have it that it's banned from the parks

Then if a guest happens to still ignore the rule and bring a selfie stick in to the park, Disney takes it and doesn't give it back. It's now Disneys and they can donate it somewhere. This way guests can still use them around resorts, but not in the parks

thats a pretty interesting idea but you know everyone will throw a huge fit when theirs gets taken away

True, I'm thinking you can buy wine at the monorail resort gift shops, right? Are they going to require delivery on these? Seems like there is no way that's going to work

Wait. Are you saying that Disney has knee jerk reactions and sets things into place before really comprehending what they are doing? I'm shocked!

Oh wait. Sarcasm isn't allowed on the Dis. Nope. Not shocked. Par for the course.

You just won the Internet today!

I think signs reminding those about to board the monorail of the items that are prohibited in the MK would at least deter people from trying to bring them in. Likewise, the people doing the screening at the resort monorail stations can politely question and/or remind people if they have an item that is prohibited in the Magic Kingdom.

My question about this new security thing is this. Will those arriving by monorail be able to bypass the security checks at the front of the park now? Is there a separate entrance for those arriving on the monorail vs those arriving via bus or boat that only monorail riders have access to? Or do monorail riders have to go through TWO screenings?

ETA: Ooops! I see there's a big thread about all of this. Off to read up!

Doesn't security hold items not allowed in the park. We've seen selfie sticks taken and guests answering questions to be able to retrieve them later?

I saw more than one selfie stick in the parks. They may say they're banned, but they aren't enforcing it.

This thread is about guests who are not going to MK, but are riding the resort monorail between resorts.
The problem under consideration is that guests not going to MK may have items with them (that they want to take to the other RESORT, or to TTC)
that would not be allowed in MK.
But, those items would (before this change in screening locations) have been just fine to carry aboard the monorail (but not if those guests were going to MK.)

It's not so much that they don't enforce it. If they see them at the gates, they take them. They aren't 100% at catching them coming in. And CM are supposed to take them if they see a guest with them in the park. I have seen the stop guests using them but not all CM will do this
