I took my DS to see this movie yesterday and we quite enjoyed it. The game that was played looked to be a REALLY good game. Seeing as I was only 4 years old when this happened, I have no recollection of it.
Does anyone know if it is possible to borrow the actual broadcast ofd this game from somewhere? I would really like to watch it.If not, did anyone here actually watch that game and was it as exciting and triumphant as the movie makes it out to be?

Do you get ESPN classic? I think they have replayed it several times lately. Might try watching the schedule.

I remember walking by the television around half time. Everyone expected it to be a blow out so I wasn't about to watch the whole game. I looked over and realized this was turning into a GAME...
It was every bit as exciting and then some... you have to remember how people felt about the soviet union in those days..there was fear and hatred...
I think half the country held it's breath during that last 30 seconds. Al Micheals doing that countdown is engraved in my brain!
After I remember hearing car horns blasting, people screaming..nobody could believe what had just happend...

Cool! I think I do. I have never thought about that. So I am off to check if I get ESPN classic, but does anyone here have any memories of this game?

My husband has a dvd of this game....while its not a rebroadcast of the game....I think its the highlights and interviews if I remember correctly. But it was really good, even for someone like me who doesn't remember the event either. Its called "Do you believe in miracles? The story of the 1980 US hockey team"
perhaps you and your son might like to watch it. It might be available at the library or I got this one at walmart for like $14

OK I do get Epsn Classic, and I guess I am dunce but I can not figue out if they will be rebroadcasting this game anytime soon. DOes anyone care to venture to the site and see for me pretty please?

www.espn.go.com/classic

DD2Disney you say this was at Walmart?

I believe it was walmart.com to be exact.....but I have seen it in atleast one walmart store....looks like its on Amazon too.

I have very fond memories of the game which are only enhanced every time I watch the replay. The timing of it all, with the Cold War in full stride, the hostages in Iran etc. it was a great thing to behold and made lots of people feel glad to be Americans for the first time in a long time.

To give you a comparison of how improbable this was, picture your local little league team beating the Yankees (I would LOVE to see that :teeth: or you and four of your coworkers beating the Lakers. Simply mind boggling.

You may want to look ahead on the guide to Feb. 22nd, as this is the anniversary of the game. I cannot believe that it was 24 years ago.

What an excellent movie!!! Kurt Russell did a wonderful job portraying Herb Brooks. My only wish is that Herb Brooks saw the movie before he passed away.

I was in high school when the US won the Gold and it was just as exciting to watch the movie as it was in 1980 watching it on tv!

Jim Craig (the team USA goalie) actually came to Erie PA (my home town) and played for our Erie Blades hockey team after the Olympics. He wasn't very happy to be playing for our small town team but after reading about his history and so fourth I can see why.

My 12 yr old DS is a hockey player and hopes to be in the deaf olympics someday. He is hearing impaired and attends the Stan Mikita (NHL Hall of Famer) hockey school for the deaf & hearing impaired. His chances are pretty good that someday he will make it and the movie really inspired him to work harder at his goal! :wave2:

I clearly remember this game. I had my head wedged under the sofa screaming. I wanted to look but couldn't. I think I listened to the last 5 minutes under there!

Heck thats what I felt like during the movie! And I knew that they were gonna win! That is what has sparked my curiosity!

I was in HS when this happened. It was so nerve-wracking, but so cool! I remember yelling at the TV when Al Michaels was counting down and saying his famous line "Do you believe in miracles? YES!"

I had tears in my eyes all during the game part of the movie.
I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. I also enjoyed the first movie made about the team. I forget the title, but it was a made for tv movie.

It's too bad they now allow pros to play. I think it takes away from the thrill and excitement.

It was a great game but one where you didnt realize what was going on until very late in the game. Remember the Americans had been blown out by the Russians earlier so it wasnt untile late in the game that they realized what was about to unfold. 2 years ago while working for the NJ Devils one of our coaches was the starting defenseman on that Russian team. We would always say stuff to him about losing that game and he would be like to this day we can still cannot speak of the loss. The people screamed at them "How can men lose to these college boys"???

I have never seen the game, I was playing in a high school basketball game that day (I believe it was a Friday).

The PA announcer at my basketball game gave the U.S. / U.S.S.R. score during a time out and the crowd went crazy. I still get goose bumps!

It was "just a hockey game", but in the context of that era, what morale booster! In my lifetime, I sure don't remember anything other than war or tragedy that has unified the country like that game.

Did anyone else sneak a radio into church to listen to the gold medal game against Finland?!?!
