Question about Mears

We are going to POR in October for a week. Our son who is in college in Oklahoma will fly in on the same day we arrive (Friday) and we will meet up at the airport, taking Tiffany to POR. We will stay the whole week but he will leave on Monday to get back to classes.
My question is, rather than pay for a Towncar for DS to get to MCO,we thought we would just send him on Mears. Never having taken Mears, what kind of experience can he expect? How many stops will it take before he gets to MCO? About how long should he allow?
Any insight would be appreciated!

I personally hate mears but you should allow 3 hours from takeoff. How many stops depends on if he has to pick up anyone else.Last year I was at allstars and we left from there. You have to call and I believe pay in advance. He can expect them to be late thats why I don't like them 2xs in one trip. here is there site

I've never had a problem with Mears. You just have to be in the right frame of mind...taxi drivers, several stops, etc.
Usually, when you call they will ask you when your flight is and give you a time of when they'll pick you up. 3 hours before the flight is the norm.

There are three chnaces I might ever use Mears again - slim, fat. and none. Thet were Johnny on the spot at MCO ---- but service back to MCO was the worst.

I agree. If you can get through all the cigarette smoke near the ground transport area at MCO, Mears is ok from MCO to WDW. I would strongly advise you do not use Mears from WDW to the airport. After our last Mears trip from hell from WDW back to the airport, I will never use them again to get back to MCO. I may consider using them from MCO to resort, but for three or more of us, I will use a towncar service.

I looked at their site but was confused on pricing. My son needs transportation to POFQ from MCO as we won't be arriving until the next day so he doesn't need to get a rental car.

What is the cost of one way transport? He doesn't need a limo, just a way to get there - the cheaper the better.

according to their website one way is $17 and rt is $29

I don't think they provide car seats.

I've done the one way Mears thing when me and hubby had to take two different flights home cause of frequent flyer availability.

I had an early flight home and he rode back to the airport with our friends who had the rental car.

My flight was at 8:30 and I was picked up in a big bus from All-Star Movies at 5:30 am. We stopped at both Music and Sports. (Should have requested the pick up from Music at 6:00 am cause that was actually closer to our room in Mighty Ducks and could have gotten a half-hour extra sleep).

Anyway, we stopped at 2 more resorts after All-Stars then went on to the airport.

I got there in plenty of time. Since I wasn't really worried about getting in any park time that day, the 3-hour pickup didn't bother me.

As far as reserving Mears. Go to any house phone at WDW (or your room phone) the day before and dial "0" and ask the WDW operator to connect you to Mears, then tell them your flight time and where you need to be picked up and they will give you a pick up time.

You must pay the driver in cash only.

You MIGHT be able to purchase the one-way ticket at the airport ahead of time, and use a credit card, but not sure.

We plan on doing this very thing in September when our son is going home during the school week. We're flying down on Friday night and getting a towncar. We'll have Mears pick him up from Hard Rock on Sunday afternoon (We'll be at Universal) to take him to the airport. Then he's coming back Thursday night, and he'll take Mears back to our resort, then come home with us on Saturday night. I'm hoping I can purchase a reverse round trip when we're at the airport on Friday evening. If not, he'll have to purchase two one-ways.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! I still have not decided what to do, but am leaning towards Mears unless he has a very early AM departure.
