Question about making first reservation with DVC

I apologize if this has been answered before. If I were to purchase a DVC contract on the resale market with, for example, a March use year and the first set of points weren't available until 2007. Would I be able to make a reservation, after closing on my contract, at the 11 month window at the home resort?

In other words, would I be able to make a reservation 11 months out for July of 2007, or would I have to wait until March of 2007 (When I actually receive the first set of points), before I could make my first reservation?

As long as the points will be availble when you travel, you can make a ressie as soon as you are in the system.

One caveat, it can take quite a while to purchase a resale contract, pass ROFR, go through closing and get in the system to make reservations. My first resale took 8 weeks from when the owner accepted my offer until I was in the system.

We took the tour in 2003 for BCV and came close to pulling the trigger then. We are going to be back in WDW on the 13th, so we may take the tour again to get the updated information.

We decided against purchasing in 2003 because it was only our second trip to WDW and didn't know if we would want to go every year or enough to make it a good deal. As you can see by my sig, we have been every year since then with plans to go next summer as well. I could have been 1/2 way to the break even point already.

Points do not drop into your account on the first day of each Use Year, they are already there. Each allocation of points has a set of "use by" dates attached to them. With a March Use Year:
Your 2007 points are valid for stays from 03/01/07 - 02/29/08
Your 2007 points are valid for stays from 03/01/08 - 02/28/09
Your 2007 points are valid for stays from 03/01/09 - 02/28/10
etc.

All that matters is that you have enough points available in the same Use Year as your travel dates. As of Aug xx, 2006, you will be 11 months out from the checkout date of your July trip. So as soon as you close and get into DVC's system, you can make the reservation using those Mar '07 points.

Also, provided the Mar '07 points you are getting were not '06 points that were banked into '07, you can borrow some/all of those points into your '06 UY and use them for trips between now and 02/28/07. Just be aware that banking and borrowing are final transactions -- once points are banked or borrowed, they cannot be put back into their original Use Year and expire at the end of the UY into which they were banked or borrowed.

I hope your resale purchase goes smoothly and quickly! I bought resale, too, and even though everything went very quickly, I remember how anxious I was to get through the process and make my first reservations. Good luck!
