Question About Late Check In

We will soon be making our first ever trip to the BWV with our ownership in DVC (how exciting!). We will also probably arrive for check in at the Boardwalk about 11 pm.

My question is, will our late check in assure we get the pits of the pits room within our guaranteed type? We have a 1 BR with the pool/garden view guaranteed, but I'd hate to end up with a poor room for the full week of our stay (I define a poor room as one near the elevator, or one at the very end with a view of the tennis courts and valet parking lot).

Also, is it possible or helpful to call during the day of our arrival, to advise the staff of our late arrival and request a favorable room assignment?

I would say you won't have many (if any) choices to move byut everyone's definition of poor is different. Many people request near the elevator so I would just specify your request to MS. I am sure you'll love BWV anywhere you may end up, Your other option is to save points and stay elsewhere with such a late arrival and than check in early. Though your room probably won't be ready, you can express your wishes to a CM at that time.

DVC has requested that members do not call or fax the resort directly and to make all requests through member services. I would have member services note your reservation record that you will not be arriving until 11:00pm.

I've found when staying at BWV that our room was already preassigned. On the other hand, if someone who checks in earlier in the day is not happy with their room assignment and raises a stink, they could switch it with yours. You could call the front desk in the morning of your arrival, I'm not sure if they would do anything.

One thing to consider if you get what you consider a bad room - don't unpack and request a change in the morning. They will charge you a $30 cleaning fee but it might be worth it if it will improve your location.

I would also add that a lot may depend on the time of year you are going. Is it during a holiday time when the resort is sold out or during September when you could call on one day's notice and get a room? It might make a difference.

Checking in late can make a difference. A couple of trips ago we had a 1-B/R at OKW. We checked in at about 9:00 pm, and only two 1-B/R's were still vacant, both of them smoking units.

(Non-smoking is a request after all, not a guarantee). Don't know who checked in after us, but they got the other smoking unit.

So whatever requests you have may no longer be available. (You'll still get your guaranteed room category), but things like smoking/non-smoking, location, floor, etc may not be what you'd like.

Again it all depends on how full the resort is. Just remember that everybody who arrives before you, gets their choice first.

You could stay offsite the first night, then check in first thing in the morning. You would save the points, and possibly get a nicer room.

We always get in late since we come in from Denver. The past few trips we have stayed at an airport hotel the first night with a great priceline rate then checked in early the next morning. We pack a small bag with stuff for the first day so we don't need to unpack the whole suitcase. Saves on points and I think we usually get a better choice of rooms.

If you have a pool/garden view room (preferred vs. standard) then that is what you will get.

The room with the valet/tennis court view is a standard view room (cost less points per night) and will be given to the person that requested that level.

We had that room once, #3123 and except for the long walk down the hall, it was a great room. Extra large as it stretched around the corner from the entrance driveway all the way around to the tennis courts.
This room that cost fewer points per night (compared to a preferred) was probabally twice the size of a typical 1-bedroom villa.

So don't worry - you are at Disney!
