Question about last Min. Reservation

I have been reading the DIS boards for some time, but just became a member
Well on to my question..... My husband and I just passed ROFR on an OKW contract, but the closing is taking longer than I had anticipated (the whole process started the last week of March....still not done, but thats another story) My husband has approved vacation the first week of Sep. and I would like to use our banked points to stay on site. We hope to finish everything this week or early next (hope being the key word here ) What are the chances of us finding either a studio or a 1 bedroom this late? Have any of you ever used points at a non DVC resort at Disney? We would consider doing that this time as we don't want to just loose the banked points, my concern is that free dining is being offered and I don't know if they will have rooms available at the other resorts at that time . Ay Advise would be welcome. I'd love to hear from anyone who has made last min. reservations like this.

We are in the process of buying a small OKW contract (waiting on FROR now)
and we also plan on going the first week of sept, we currently have a reservation at CSR but would love to use our points if rooms are available...

I just bought OKW and booked about 2 weeks ago for a 2BR the week of July 8-14. I think that you should be able to get something if you aren't picky about where you are staying. You can always book what is available and be put on the waitlist for your other choice. We booked at SSR and waitlisted OKW. We got it already.

By the way, free dining isn't available to DVC members. You could rent your points and book a resort OOP and get Free dining...but not if you are staying on points.

We just bought additonal points at BW - the closing is set for June 15th - is it possible to use our points for end of June - correct? We put a deposit down, financing approved 100% - Disney is the one who tells us the date.

If you bought directly from Disney and they have your deposit, you should be able to use the points to make a reservation right now - you don't have to wait until closing. Sounds to me like your add on points are already in your account - have you checked your account on the members' website to see yet?

Call MS tomorrow and see what accomodations may still be available for your dates - you can ask to waitlist if some or all of your dates are not available. Good luck!

thank you to all of you who have replied. I'm glad I am not the only one with qustions like this.

We know we were not getting free dining, our concern was with room availability if DVC was not available. I know point wise it is not a good idea to use points outsided DVC, but we only have the one week as a vacation choice before the points expire. Have any of you ever used your points this way? We were looking at a Mod. hotel (only if no DVC available). Can I still purchase the dining plan?

I hope I am worring for nothing, and the seller will get his paper work in soon, then we can just use our points at a DVC resort.

to the DISboards! Since you are flexible on unit type and resort - I think you have an excellent chance of getting something. I have heard the 1 bdrms are the easiest units to get- even if you have to go on the waitlist- that is a slow time and with your flexibility I think the outlook is good. Do your travel dates include labor day? If so, that will make it more difficult- but you would still have a chance.

We are going Sep. 8-15th. We would like a studio, but a 1 bedroom will work fine. I don't care where we stay this time because we know we will be going back and will now have the chance to stay at all the DVC resorts at some time
I have afriend who is telling me we won't be able to get anything this late. I thought Sep. was slow, but I'm now worried. I hope that the free dining will thin the DVC crowds and make rooms available.......
