I have two teens DS is 19 will be 20 in a couple months and DD 16 just turned. I have a 2207 car and my DS been driving a 1998. DS went away to college more than 100 miles from here shortly after DD received her license. I carry full overage on the 2007 with no/100 deductibles. 1998 carry only on the other guy. Suppose to get a reduction on DS since he is away at school-here is the kicker, I get my new bill and the insurance on the 2007 was raised tremendously, the 1998 stayed about the same. So I call the insurance agent apparently you can not have two youth drivers on the same car so they put my DS on the 2007 and DD on the 98. The 98 didn't reduce increased by about 10.00 ( although I thought girls were suppose to be cheaper). I did go on line and with progressive the ins for the same coverage will be over 400.00 cheaper for 6 months.
My question is has any one had this happen to them the insurance company telling you you can't have two youth drivers on the same car-any Insurance agents or anyone that has experience with this your input would be greatly appreciated. I did tell my agent about the quote and I was met with well you get a discount the first 6 months when you do it online-my reply was yes it stated that and it was 50.00-still would make my insurance cheaper, they then told me I would lose my homeowners discount-to which I replied I will move everything-then all of a sudden it was well let us see what we can do-this was yesterday morning when I spoke with them and haven't heard anything back.
My other option if I can't have 2 youth drivers on 1 vehicle is to title my DS23 93 jeep in my name(he has 3 vehicles) and put one of the kids on it. We would figure what he pays now for it and what the difference would be and I would pay that. Ialso told the ins agent that I would put one of his vehicles on mine and she says well it would have to be titled in your name DUHHHH. I guess the attitude for everything I said has me kind of mad. Oh and I have been with this agent since I was 16 when I was on my parents insurance, my dad had his insurance with them until he passed away 7.5 years ago, and then my mom had her renters ins with them when she went to assisted living for almost another 5 years. Several relatives went with them after my dad did. I reminded them of this.
