Ok, I have a few questions. I am going to DW in December. I am a type 2 recently put on insulin. I have questions about traveling with it. I already requested a medical fridge at the POP Century, but what about flying. What can I take through security and what about the plane ride, will they keep it in a fridge for me?

I will use a Frio cooling wallet; check out www.coolerconcept.com for more information. Note that your current use bottles may be safely kept as high as room temperature (mid 70's), but a Frio wallet will keep them at about 45 for several hours when the temperature is higher.

I use a Frio wallet for my son's Humalog pens but prefer Medicool's product for his Lantus vials. http://www.medicool.com/diabetes/diabetes_travel_insulprot.php Although it's not supposed to happen, I've found that Lantus doesn't work for him if it doesn't stay quite cool.

I sometimes also just carry the pens in a small lunch size cooler with freezer packs especially if I don't need to worry about keeping the pens cool with the Frio in the parks. If I carry a cooler, I always alert security.

My husband is also diabetic and travels with a Medicool weekly and never bothers to declare it although occasionally he will be asked about it.

Be sure to take all your supplies with you in carryons....don't check any of it.

Regarding traveling with insulin and also doing disney while on insulin - I would read this site - it is great - although they are talking about Type 1 diabetes, I think you will find the information very valuable. We will be tackling the airport with diabetes supplies as well. Good luck! :santa:

Its actually pretty easy to fly with supplies for the most part. We love the frio wallets here and use them alot but we also carry a small cooler with reusable ice packs in it to keep her unopened insulin cool. Chloe is type 1 and on a pump so she requires a whole carry on for her supplies. I think once the security sees it all together they let it go thru. It obvious to them then that its legit.
Something else interesting is that a diabetic can carry a drink containing carbs thru security. Chloe was allowed to take her juice with her with no questions. They asked if it was for glucose control and when we said yes ( she had dropped low) they waved her thru. On the way back we had several juice boxes in ur carry on adn they did not bat an eye. It now says somewhere on all of those signs at the airport someting about liquids for glucose control are permitted. interesting..
