Question about how to get gasoline smell out of clothes.

<font color=#0066FF>The other day my brother was pumping gas and when he tried to flip the little thing that holds the trigger it sprayed all over his pants and shoes.
I've washed his jeans 4 times now and they still smell like gasoline. I don't know what I should do. Anyone have any suggestions?</font>

I didn't know that it wouldn't come out with normal washing. Have you tried addin Oxyclean to the wash? It says it works best with organic stains, but it's worth a shot if you have some. Otherwise, I'd probably just send them through about a million rinse cycles. And don't put them in the dryer until you're sure the smell is out.

A match will cover up the smell, wait that might not be a great idea in this case.

I did not click on Dan's link yet, so I don't know what it says. But gas is an oil based product. do it is probably residual oils that is allowing the smell to stay.
I think that I would spray the clothes with Spray and Wash or Shout. Then I would soak them in a soaking solution of detergent and the VERY HOTTEST WATER that you can get. It will be a combination of the detergent and hot water that should help to dissolve that water.
Soak the clothes overnight or until the water cools. Then drain the water and wash as usual. Hopefully THAT should help to get out the gasoline smell.
Oxyclean is also a good suggestion. I have been very happy with using it for stains. But I am not sure how it is on odors.
