Question about Hoppers for sale at Supermarket

I just saw that our local Kroger Supermarket "Smiths" here in Utah has 3 day Hoppers for sale on their gift card aisle. Is it worth buying them there vs online. They are plastic just like a credit card. Are those the actual ticket or do they need to be redeemed for your actual park ticket like an online printed voucher would? I guess I am trying to figure out if buying them at the store will save us anytime when we arrive at the Parks. Also if the store passes are going to save time would these passes be any more difficult to upgrade to APs before we leave?

I'm not totally sure if they need to be exchanged...

But there's the option of buying your tickets through disneyland.com. Choose the electronic ticket option, and you are emailed vouchers. Print out the vouchers, take them to the turnstiles. They will scan each voucher and out will pop a ticket for each voucher. So easy. And since DLR does offer discounts on tickets online (while WDW does not) compared to at the gate, it can be a savings.

Of course, compare to the store prices. :)

I have used grocery store bought tickets before. They are your actual tickets (the plastic credit card things) and there is no need to exchange them. However, if you buy them online I believe they ship them (either plastic ones or paper ones, not sure) to you. So either way, you will have your tickets in advance and you won't have to go to will call or the ticket booths to pick them up once you are actually there.

Neither plastic nor paper ticket will have any troubles when upgrading to an AP.

The bottom line comes down to price like bumbershoot said.

I've purchased them from the grocery store before and will do that again when we need a 3 day or less hopper. I liked that they were plastic vs paper for durability.

As far as ease of use, it is your ticket and will take no more time than it would for them to scan you online printed voucher and print a paper ticket at the gate.

I see no reason you'd have issues upgrading to an AP with them either.

Oh, FYI, you won't be able to keep those tickets after you upgrade. So don't spend too much time thinking how cute they are....
