Question about height requirements for rides...

We are going in May and DS will be very close to 44" and DD very close to 40" - not sure if they'll make it or not, but my question is are they measured EVERY time they arrive at a ride with a height restriction? Or can they get measured and get a wrist band or something?

My biggest problem with Six Flags is that the measuring "sticks" seem to be different at each ride, and some workers allow them on and others don't.

I think the only ride DS would want to ride is Space Mountain, but DD will want to ride Splash Mountain and a few other 40" rides.

thanks!

They will be measured at each ride that has a height restriction... however, WDW does not use "height sticks" anymore for that very reason (uneven ground, CM's slanting them, worn bottoms, etc). They now have stationary height bars located at the attractions that have been measured to height (they can not be moved by the cast members).

Is there a place to measure them myself before getting into line?

Usually at the ride entrance, then the CM measure at the ride itself.

They measure them just before you enter the line. The attraction greeter will be next to the height bar. Sometimes they will not stop them to measure them, being that they do this all day long they can usually eyeball the kids and know if they will make it or not. When I worked at Dinosaur I knew, based on my own height, where the kids would need to be as they passed me and only stopped the "iffy" ones.

Yes there is a height stand at the entrance to every ride and at least one more before you get on the ride.

They do not have ride sticks as one poster mentioned, they are stationary - however they are not accurate anyway :)

DD came down with pneumonia 2 weeks before our trip. She was measured in the hospital in her socks at 40" even, she was also measured at the Dr's office for her follow up at 40" even.

She made it without a problem on TOT (40") but later that same day was too short for Soarin which is MUCH tamer than TOT. She was wearing flip flops this day so when we went the next day again we tried her in her sneakers and she was fine. We just put her sneakers on every day after that and she was fine from then on.

It's just odd how she could be 40" in her socks at two different places yet at Soarin - in flip flops she was too short.

Just be prepared that your child may make it on some rides but not others with the same height restrictions because the measuring stations definitely are not 100% accurate :)

If DD is very close to 40" then be prepared to have CMs measure her more than once. When we were there in December, my DD was measured at least twice for height restricted rides. Of course, it would have been better if she didn't make it. She didn't like Soarin' (a very tame ride) and HATED Test Track. We didn't bother with anything else. From my experience, it might be wise to test DD on a tamer ride...perhaps Soarin or Goofy's Barnstormer...before getting her on Splash. I thought my DD was a dare-devil...all she talked about before our trip was how much she wanted to ride Splash, but once there, she was terrified of anything high, fast or loud.

Have fun!
