Question about having to cancel with borrowed points?

My parents have booked a 2 BR (for them and my family) and a studio (for my aunt and uncle) for vacation next year. Because it was during Easter week, she had to borrow some points. Now my aunt and uncle are probably not going so we will need to cancel the studio for the week.

They way I understand it, the points that would have been used for the studio for the current use year will be restored as if a reservation had never been made. Is that correct? They can still be banked and such if needed. Their use year is in December.

What I don't really understand is the borrowed points. I read that they can not be put back into their appropriate use year. Can you use borrowed points for something such as a concierge collection stay even if you haven't used all of the current year points (my parents would probably bank those remaining after the cancellation since no one is planning on going on another trip until the next use year)

I would really appreciate any advice. My parents aren't sure what to do in this situation.

If they are still within their banking deadlines, they could ask MS to make sure they use the borrowed points for the 1 bedroom and any current year points left over be banked.

You can NOT return points that were borrowed to the year that they were borrowed from. They become current year points and have to be used during the current year.

I think Deb inadvertently left out a very important "NOT":
"You can NOT return points that..."
