Is there a way around the stretching room in the Haunted Mansion queue? I don't want my 16-month niece to freak out and start crying when they shut out all of the lights. If I ask, will they allow me skip that part?

I've done it with my daughter and have had no problems, we always try and go early so that there isn't a long line...feels kind of bad to skip the outside line

This question made me curious about something related. My DD5 used to love ToT, but somewhere along the line, the pre-show began to frighten her. Is there anyway to skip that too?

Yes,and I "think",but am not sure you can use it.Ask a Cast Member if you can go through the Gift Shop and take the "Chicken Elevator" up to the loading area.:)

I don't see them allowing this because it seems like a way for a guest to skip the line. there would not be a fair way to decided when to add the. manisons way around the stretch room isnt really skipping the line, since all you would do is go to the head of your group....which if you know what picture to stand under you can move to the front of your group anyways even if you didnt skip the room

GREAT point!:thumbsup2

We've also done it at HM with my mom who is claustrophobic. I think that at ToT, it's all much a part of the show so it would be more difficult. Maybe if you had someone else in your party you could ask if you could skip the preshow and wait until they got up to where you were (so you weren't skipping the line)? I don't know - just a thought.

Last January when we were in the stretching room of the HM in DL, my 20 month old DGS started to freak out because he was scared. A CM immediately came up to us and popped a glow stick for DGS to hold. He immediately stopped crying and calmed down. We were able to enjoy the rest of the ride as he happily waved his glow stick around him. Thanks to a very helpful CM, the ride was fun. But my daughter has said that maybe it would have been better not to take him on the ride at all!

Are you sure you should even take her on the ride if this is a concern? I would think that some of the stuff inside would be more bothersome to small child than the stretching room.

That is a good point as well, OP, question for you, have you been on Mansion since the refurbishment around 2 years ago? They made quite a few changes you might want to see before trying to take a child on. they did removing the screaming sound from the graveyard ghost that pops up(that sometime scared me) but the new verison of the bride might scare children, the ghost paintings in the hallway with the lightning may be very scary as well.

The new bride was one of the first things that came to mind for me as well.

I *think* on ToT that they'll let you walk straight through the library if you ask and skip the preshow in the that room. I seem to recall seeing people do this in the past.

You can skip the strech room without skipping the line. When you get to the front doors just tell the CM and they will take you down the "Full of Fright" hallway (it actually says this on a plaque on the door). When you enter the preshow the big doors to the strech room are on your left, the hallway door is directly ahead of you. Once in that hallway you can either go straight and exit from the ride or go down the hall to your left and enter the load area right past the exit from the strech rooms. It is also true that if you stand beneath the girl with the umbrella that is the panel that opens to the load area and you will have a shorter wait.
Beyond all that advice, as a Mom if your niece is going to be afraid of the strech room (unless she is just claustrophbic) she probably won't like the ride. I've had too many experiences with kids scared by a ride and then not wanting to go on anything else that they can't see the whole ride. So, unless your sure, this might be one to child swap!

I agree with the PP's who mentioned if your child will be scared of the stretching room, you may want to just skip the ride outright. :thumbsup2 I like the PP's mention of taking a glow stick on the ride to keep the baby occupied. :thumbsup2

this might be true, since its not skipping the line, but honestly, if a child is too scared for this preshow, the ride may terrify them, think of before the drop, when the ghost are on both sides, the glass mirror breaking in the distance, the various experinces you may enconter during the ride such as lightning effects, etc...

My kids love HM. But they are a little frightened in the stretching room cause you aren't "protected" by the ride vehicle. So just because that room may be a concern does not mean the entire ride should be skipped IMO.

When we took youngest DS at 3, he enjoyed the stretching room, but not the ride itself! But he was okay with the assurance that it was all pretend and he didn't have to watch, so he pulled his hoodie over his face and buried his head in my shoulder. Strangely enough on the same trip he loved ToT! :confused3
