Question about Grand Villas

I'm sure this question has been asked/answered before but I wanted to know if Grand Villas are ever available to the general public or if they are kept solely for DVC members.

I assume they would be available to the public if there was availability but I was just curious. Has anyone stayed in a Grand Villa that wasn't a DVC member? Are they nice? How many people can you comfortably fit in there? Also, if one did become available would it be eligible for one of Disney's discount codes.

I'm probably getting way ahead of myself but again, I'm just curious.

Every once in a while, one will show up at Disney Reservation Center. But lots of members buy at specific resorts just to book that GV at 11 months out. Since most of the resorts are sold out or nearly sold out now, there is less inventory to show up on DRC for non-members. And some resorts have either no GV or very few GVs.

We;ve been watching for a GV for 4-5 years now, but there has never been anything available for our resort, or dates (we are not DVC). Not to say it doesn't happen, but we haven't had any luck booking one as a cash ressie.

I'm sure you're aware of this, but if you want a Grand Villa your best bet and probably significantly less expensive route would be to rent the points as opposed to a direct booking with Disney. I can't imagine what the price of one of those would be through Disney, but dependig on what time of year you're going you could get a pretty good price renting points from a member or through the DIS endorced Dave's DVC site.

I know you were looking for an unbiased opinion from a non DVC member, but I can tell you as a DVC member they are INCREDIBLE!!! We've had 11 family members in them on multiple occasions and we never had space issues. They are huge!!!

Good luck!!!

The difficulty with trying to rent a grand villa through a member is the huge number of points required. Depending, of course, on the number of days you're looking for, it can be tough to find a single owner with enough points to get you the entire stay.

It's possible to rent from multiple owners, and have each reserve a portion of your stay, but that can get complicated.
