Question about gate checking stroller??

I'm flying SW and planning on gate checking my stroller, but I don't have one of those travel stroller bags. My stroller doesn't lock very well when folded and I'm worried about it getting damaged when they store it for travel. It's hard to fold once it's been opened (DH can't do it and he's seen me fold it many times!). Has anyone else used something other than a travel bag to keep their stroller closed, I'm thinking of something like a bungee to wrap around it to make sure it stays shut. Any opinions on this???

A bungee or a luggage strap will work fine. Consider also bringing a large trash bag if it is raining when you fly; you can wrap it the plastic around the middle of the folded stroller and hold it in place with the bungee, and it will help keep rain from soaking the upholstery during the loading/unloading process. (Also, the hold can be a greasy place, a little protection for the upholstery is always a wise idea, IMO.)

Bungee works great! Our straps work fine but we still throw a couple bungee cords to make sure it's secure.

i will never gate check a stroller without a bag. My stroller was broken on October 1st and I just got restitution from the airline. It didn't help much that I didn't have a decent stroller while on vacation

I've gate checked strollers....gate checked 2 of them on our last trip and I've never put them in a bag, bungeed them or anything like that. Of course, I didn't know about these boards then either, lol. I guess I'm lucky they didn't get broken like the above poster mentioned hers were. As a matter of fact, on our last trip there were lots of folks waiting for their strollers and none of theirs were in bags. I also didn't consider that it might have be raining when we get off the plane and the strollers would get wet. Hmmmm...now I need to figure out what to do myself for this upcoming trip. Wouldn't want the strollers to get broken or wet.

When we flew we put a rope/twine around the stroller. The stroller locked down fine, but it was for our own piece of mine. We had no problems and some our our flights were kind enough to open our stroller and have it ready for us to put our son in as soon as we got off the plane.
