I really need my sweets I can give up the candy but how is fruit. I mean I know its still sugar but grapes, watermelon. Is there any fruit that is not forbidden? Also..... although I am not following atkins whats the deal with seafood. in general is it fattening?

If you are not following Atkins, are you following some other eating plan?? I can't answer for low carb plans, but I know that on WW fruits are allowable and encouraged, actually. For instance, 1 cup of grapes counts 1 point. Not much for something that can satisfy your sweet tooth.

I think fruit would be allowable on many eating plans.

I don't know what eating plan you are following. I am eating healthy food and keeping an eye on my calorie intake. Both fruit and fish are very healthy options, but like other things some types are better for you and less fattening than others. Generally speaking fish is not fattening in and of itself. Like a lot of foods it depends on how it is cooked, and served (with or without a sauce). I learned that with fruit the brighter the fruit the better it is for you. So for instance an orange would be better for you than say grapes.

Fruits do not have enough net carbs for you to be concerned, unless you are following Atkins, since lots of them like apples, pears and such have a high fiber content as well. They are also full of phytochemicals that aid in the prevention of certain cancers and lets face it, a fruit is a HECK of a lot healthier sweet treat than any of the others you could name. If you are not following a rigidly low carb plan I would include fruit everyday.

As for fish- Muscle&Fitness-Hers, has a great article this month about fish.

Some of the benefits listed:
Good source of quality proetein
Low in fats especially saturated fats,
Low in calories
Good source of heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids

Safety concerns- High mercury content in SOME fish-

Fish with highest mercury levels should be limited to one serving per week and include:

Fresh tuna
Swordfish
Shark
Tilefish
King mackerel

Fish with lowest mercury levels are:

Salmon
Trout
Flounder
Haddock
Catfish (farmed)
Shrimp

Fruits are really good for you. It depends on what plan you are on as to how it will affect you.

Shellfish, like shrimp, scallops, lobster, crab etc is very low fat and low in calories. I am on WW's and 2 oz is only 1 point! I eat lots of shrimp!

Im not really following anything just trying to do my own thing. But i do like fruit and something like watermelon really fills me up. so just wondering if its fattening. I always have grapes inthe house for the kids so if i need something sweet I have been grabbinga few of those. Anyway good news about the shrimp. Thats good to know. I am concidering following WW but I just donthave alot of time. 3 of my kids are involved in sports so there are practices games meetings etc. What do you all think ? Is it time consuming?
