Question about free dining

I have a quick question about free dining. As you can probably tell we have never used the dining plan before.

If we book a package and free dining is released is it easier to adjust then if we do room only??

Do they only block certain rooms for free dining or does it matter if you call right away to add it on to your reservation or can you get it no matter what as long as you check in within the dates?

No. It is easier to add free dining on to a package including room, park tickets, and dining.

Yes. Only specific numbers of each type of room are released with free dining. It is best so go in with several options you are willing to accept. Pull the trigger fast once it is announced.

If we are booked, say from 10/15-10/20 & FD begins on 10/18, do we get it for the last 3 nights or so we need to make a separate ressie?

You need to book a completely new reservation (a package) that begins on 10/18 AND (and this is a big AND) - includes tickets.

1. If you book a package you can have the package modified to add free dining. If you have a room only reservation, that reservation will have to be cancelled and the deposit will be refunded. You'll have to make a package reservation and pay a new deposit. This is because room only and packages are booked through separate offices.

2. There are only a limited number of rooms included in free dining and it may not be for all resorts or room categories. For example the Little Mermaid rooms aren't part of the current FD offer because they fill up without a special offer. It's also possible that the room you currently have isn't included in an offer so you'll have to change resorts or room categories if you want to take advantage of a special.

3. No guarantee. There has to be availability for your resort/room category so it's best to take advantage of a special as soon as it becomes available.
