Question about free dining and pre-pay places

like CRT, HDDR, and MBB.

I like to book my restaurants at the 180 day mark.

I also like to have a dining plan in place at that time so if we decide to go to a pre-pay place, we can use the dining plan and not get charged in advance.

What happens if I'm hoping for free dining but it hasn't yet been announced by the 180 day mark?

Specifically, assume I book a pre-paid restaurant at my 180 day mark on a paid dining plan (thereby avoiding being charged in advance). A month later, free dining is announced for my arrival date, so I switch my paid dining plan to free dining. Does this have any effect on my dining reservation at the pre-paid restauant? (i.e., will this trigger being charged in advance for the pre-paid restaurant because for a brief moment I was transfering from paid dining to free dining?)

It should not have any effect on your pre-pay reservations. As far as I know, the only times that the dining plan matters for these is when you book, and when you eat :). Since you've already booked, and haven't eaten yet, you should be set.

Now, keep in mind, this is older info, if things have indeed changed (which I don't think they have), then the above may be wrong :)

My understanding is that they are not "pre-pay". the card only holds the reservation and provides them a form of payment if you do not cancel the reservation with in their policy time. Your card would only get charged at time of use or time of "no-show". So when it comes time to pay, you pull out or Dining Plan and not your credit card. I could be wrong but I have booked Crystal Palace, O'hana and Akershus and nothing has been charged to my card.

There are about 5 levels of CC stuff for booking ADRs (that I can think of)

  • $10 cc hold - 1 day: This is the bulk of the new ones started on 10/26/2011. This includes most Signatures and Character meals
  • $10 cc hold - 2 days: This is Akershus as well as F! packages (and maybe a couple other events?)
  • $25 cc hold - ?? days: This is V&A. I believe it's one day, but may very well be two.
  • Full Prepay with DDP Guarantee - This is CRT and the 3 dinner shows. If you have a confirmed resort reservation with an appropriate dining plan associated, these are full price CC holds. If you do not, then you pay in full at time of booking. No shows and late cancellation will find the card on file charged for the full amount of the meal/show.
  • Full Prepay Non-DDP - This is stuff like Chef's Wine Tasting at Flying Fish and a multitude of other experiences that are not available with any plan. These are full pay in advance things.
(I probably missed a couple different variations)
