I was wondering how close the stables are to Pioneer Hall where HDDR is performed? Would it be easy to walk between the two? Also, can anyone tell me the best way to get from POR to Fort Wilderness for HDDR. I was thinking take a bus to MK or TTC and then transfer to Fort Wilderness transportation. I'm sure there's a Fort Wilderness bus stop at the TTC but what kind of transportation do they have going from MK over to Fort Wilderness?
TIA:goodvibes

Wendy, thanks for asking about that. I want to go to HDDR during our trip in Dec. and we will be staying at POR, so I needed this info too.

Thanks Robo for the info and map.You never disappoint. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the kind words. Glad to help.

After the later Hoop performances (in Dec. it may be after ALL the Hoop performances,) if you walk to the Settlement Bus Stop, you'll find special buses that will take you back to your resort.

Just to be clear . . .

There is not a bus from the TTC to FW. There used to be, but there is no more.

My girls went horseback riding @ the TriCircle D Ranch and I have to say, they absolutely loved it! It is an experience I am glad I stumbled upon and even more glad that I booked it for them! Just thought I'd share incase that is what brings you to that area!! :goodvibes

Robo,

I noticed on your map something marked "lawnmower tree". Please tell, what it this?
Thanks

how do book the horseback riding and do you know a cost? i am going in August and think my DD would like this, thanks

Maybe I'm looking at this correctly, but it looks like the ranch on the map is the one where the draft horses are kept, not the one for horseback riding. The horseback riding takes place at a stable up by the main entrance/parking lot clear on the other side of the campground. It is not a short walk; you definitely need to take the internal bus. It's a totally different stable than the one near Pioneer Hall.

Inkkognito is correct.

Tri-Circle-D Ranch has two locations in FW.

The location by Settlement area (by Pioneer Hall) is where you will find the horse barn that you can tour and the pony rides. There used to be a petting zoo here, too. But, the petting zoo animals have disappeared from here, and now all you will find are horses and ponies.

The location by the Outpost area (by the FW main entrance) is called Trail Blaze Corral. This is where you find the horses for the trail rides. There is also a barn here, but you cannot tour it.

These two areas are about a mile apart. There are internal buses in Fort Wilderness that will take you from one area to the other.

I know you asked Robo, but I can answer your question.

The lawnmower tree is a pine tree near the FW marina that appears to have grown around an abandoned lawn mower. There is a sign there identifying it, and providing a little story about it.

But, I have some bad news.

This nice, big, pine died in 2007.

They lopped the top off the tree in 2007:

I took this photo in November, 2008:

(see those pieces of metal there at the base of the tree? That's the lawnmower)

At this rate, the lawnmower tree, will not be with us for much longer.
