Question about DVC rental benefits

I read on Mousesavers that those who rent at DVC (through a member) are entitled to the same discounts as owners, during the stay. Is this true? If so, how does this work? I'm thinking specifically about discounts on tours, because I'd like to take the Family Magic tour. Would I be able to ask for a DVC discount in advance, just using a reservation confirmation number? Or would I have to wait until we actually check in to reserve the tour?

Also, if the discount is valid where else can it be used?

Renter technically are not entitled to DVC perks. that being said most Card keys to your room say DVC member on them. I don't know if that would be enough to get the discount on tours, you might have to show them your actual card.
