Can I purchase in advance (online or at a Disney Store) an AP using my DVC discount?

I already have an AP that expires in July. DH is coming with me on two trips in 2009 (Jan and Dec) so it makes sense to get him an AP as well.

A DVC discounted annual pass can be purchase on-line thru the member website or by calling MS. The only other place they can be purchase is onsite at WDW. If you pre-purchase you will either select will-call or pay extra to have an exchange voucher mailed to you. Either way, you will still have to go to a guest services location at WDW to get the actual AP.

You can purchase at any Member Services Location while on property (Any Park and DTD) and its valid for 365 days from date of purchase. Its valid as soon as it purchased.....

I have asked in the past and the answer was that the AP was activated on the day of first use, not on the day of purchase as Fortywinks stated. This could make a big difference to me, as I was going to purchase it in advance and then activate it in October.
Which is correct?
Thanks for the answer.

Fortywinks is refering to an AP that is bought on property. Those begin as soon as they are purchased.

If you pre-purchase on-line, your time does not begin until you go to guest services and get the actual AP.

Thanks! I need to recoop from Christmas before I get my AP's for next year!!

Keep in mind that if you choose to renew the AP you already have you will extend that pass for a year. If you renew the AP that expires in July 2009 it will extend to July 2010 no matter when you buy it. Renewing cost less that buying a new pass.

If you buy a new pass, it will run from the date you redeem the voucher at WDW for a year.

Just curious about pre-purchase. Is there any benefit in doing this? I purchased mine at MS with DVC discount at Magic Kingdom and was in the park in 5 mins. Credit card charge did not post for 2 business days and paid on next billing cycle, ~28 days later. If you purchase on-line would not CC charge be same with the voucher, not when it’s used?

The main reason one would want to pre-purchase on-line is to avoid a price increase. Members that need to purchase several APs may also want to spread the cost over many months. But yes, your cc would be charged at the time of purchase not when activated.
