Question about dress code

I have noticed in one of my guidebooks that it says dress is "business casual" for some of the restaurants. It says "business casual" means no shorts, tank tops, etc. We have eaten in some of thes restaurants in the past and always worn shorts. Is this a new policy or were we totally inappropriate? I know that Victoria and Albert's requires jackets and dresses. But for other places I wouldn't want to wear pants all day to a park just so I could eat at one of these restaurants. Does anyone have more information on the dress code issue?

WDW would like to enforce this, but it is a dream not enforced on their part, thank goodness for all of us. I don't know why they even keep trying. The only park restaurant I know of that really has a dress code is Le Bistro in World showcase. Business casual is most of the time, enforced there, although people on these message boards have reported seeing people in shorts there, we never have, ever.

WDW needs to wake up, like DL did many years ago. There are no dress codes, not even for Napa Rose in the Grand Californian. We asked the servers while we were there about this, they said, it just wasn't worth it, people aren't willing to lug all the extra clothes with for vacation to dress up for dinner. Hubby and I totally agree, especially with the airline weight limits being strictly enforced these days.

We eat at all the disney signature restaurants, resorts and parks and if we are in the parks, we go as we are and we are always welcome. Go and enjoy your meals!

Many guests are clamoring for more up-scale, adult environments to enjoy a good meal. The signature restaurants are intended to fill that need, and those are the restaurants that have the business casual dress code. Over time, hopefully guests will begin to comply with their host's wishes in this regard more and more.

me and my mom ate at the brown derby last time we were there which seemed pretty upscale and not many people there were following a dress code if there was one so i dont think you embarassed yourself! but iguess for the really upscale restaurants they might enforce that rule.

Yes, It is a relatively new request/requirement. I agree with Bicker, guests are asking for upscale dining and a dress code affects that.
When we made our ADR's for October we were informed of the new dress code of business casual. When we ate at Yachtsman Steakhouse there was only one couple in the entire restaurant the whole time we were there who were in theme park shorts and T attire. Everyone else had on nice pants, tops etc. Not suits and jackets to be sure for the most part (there were some), but a bit more upscale than theme park day wear. I personally appreciated it.
