Question about Disney's "seasons"

Why is peak season only 2/17 - 4/16?
Regular season is 4/17 - 8/27, 10/5 - 11/26?

I would think July and August would be Peak. Does this have anything to do with crowd levels or is this just what they decided their hotel rates will be.

I believe it is relative to the Hotel vs. the parks. For example, my family and I are staying at the Wilderness Villas July 6 - 11th this year, which is VALUE season for the Villas.

hotel seasons vary based on level of hotel... i am sure it is all based on a supply/demand formula for different hotels something like this: value hotels value season starts the end of august, after most families w/kids who would be their target guest have gone back to school; whereas deluxe hotels value season is in july and august because their target guest is not there at that time and they are trying to entice the value resort stayers to upgrade...
