Question about DING

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm too lazy to search the million threads about SW Dings out there. Here it goes..........

We already have our flight booked. I understand that if you get a DING with a lower fare and do not change your flight numbers, times, etc. you can get a refund on your credit card. Our return flight currently shows unavailable so I guess it is sold out. If a DING comes out for a lower fare, is our only option to get the lower price on our flight out b/c it is available. Are we either stuck with the price we have on our return flight or we have to book a different return flight that is available for the DING?

A refund is not guaranteed. I know many people who have been very successful in getting a refund, and others who did not. I had to call head office in Texas last year ... I booked the exact same flights/times, etc. It took me a long time to get them to agree to the refund, AND she followed up 2 days after each of my flights to ensure that I actually FLEW. Not sure why she cared, since I had paid for the flights anyway.

Just don't want you to be disappointed if you don't get the refund, but rather just the credit towards future flights.

We've never tried for a refund because we've always known that we'd be flying again somewhere soon, and we've had great luck with the credits. We have learned though that it's a lot easier to book 2 one ways instead of a round trip ticket when there's a possibility for a Ding; that way, if only one leg of your flight is available, you can still rebook for the reduced price without losing your spot/price on the unavailable flight.

If you pre booked and later find a Ding rate can you use the credit to purchase another ticket ( Disney daughter now wants to come after months of saying she wants to stay home teenagers) now I am scrambling to update flight but of course the flights are not where I want them
