Question about Delta

We are flying Delta for our January trip. I've heard a lot of people say Delta changes flight schedules quite often. Just wondering....

1. Is it true Delta does this more than other airlines?
2. Will they email/call immediately if they make changes, or will it take a while before they contact us?

2. Usually you do not get notice of changes, especially changes of less than an hour and when it is not close to your travel date. But you have to telephone and reselect seats (which accepts the change); you cannot do this on line.

To me DL doesn't change their schedule any more than the rest. I check my flts. online everyday. If there is a change I just call in to get my seat assignment confirmed. I booked our Nov. flts. in Feb. and there have been 3 changes to our flts. One of them was just flt. #, but you still need to call in for seating.

I don't know if Delta changes more or less often than other airlines but I do know that they do not notify you and you lose your seat assignment when they change the times. It seems they only change the time by 10 minutes and your seats are gone and you have to call to get them back. I fly Delta fairly regularly and I have learned to constantly check on my flights to make sure they are the same and that I still have my seats. I have signed up for e-mail and phone notifications and haven't ever received one despite many changes on my flights.

I totally agree with Deedeetoo. Signing up for email notification is a waste of time, 'cuz it NEVER happens. The last change, I guess I did not catch it quickly enough, so our seating assignments (made in early APRIL) were out the window and the best seats I could get when I called were 20 ROWS further back in the plane! Boy, was I P.O.'d!:sad2:

Okay, I understand being upset with Delta over the seat change due to the schedule change - that stinks. But, doesn't the whole plane land at pretty much the same time? :teeth:

If I'm traveling by myself I don't care much where my seat is though I prefer an aisle and not to be next to the bathrooms. But when I'm traveling with my kids I really care. I was on a plane last week (US Air) where an entire family was split up. 3 yo girl in middle seat in one row, 5 yo boy in middle seat in about 5 rows up, dad was way in the back of the plane. It was a very hard flight. The 3 yo was actually pretty good, but the 5 yo was up roaming the plane all the time. It was a bumpy flight and the seat belt sign was on a lot and this poor kid kept roaming around looking for his dad and driving the stewardess crazy.

Thanks for all your replies....very helpful.

Next question -- I seem to recall hearing that if the airine changes your flight times, they will let you rebook on a different flight (on the same day of course) for no charge. We used miles to get our flights, but the flights we really wanted that day were not available without using more miles, so I'm kind of hoping Delta changes our flights and we can rebook on the flight we really wanted. Does anyone know about this???

Thanks again for all your help!!!

Glad to find this thread because I've been watching airfares from Portland, OR to MCO in January for Marathon Weekend, and by far Delta has the best deal right now ($491 RT for 2!). I've never flown with Delta so was wondering if other people have had good/bad/average experience with them. I can handle checking for flight changes frequently. Other than that, any other things I should consider besides $$$ in making my decision to/not to go with Delta? Thanks!!

I witnessed something similiar on USAir about 2 weeks ago. The parents were in the exit row (10) and the 2 girls were in the bulkhead row (4). I was in 11, the girls kept walking back and forth (I'd say they were around 8 or 10). I felt bad because it seemed like the younger girl was afraid to go back to the lav herself and the parents didn't seem to want to go with her. They were too busy with their glasses of wine! I guess the problem was they couldn't split them up each with a parent because the parent's seats were in the exit row.

Last week, my flight times, flight number, and equipment were changed. I called Delta to check the status of my seats, and they remained the same. I did not have to reassign my seats. :wizard:
