Question about current Disney AKV promotion

For the current Disney AKV promotion where you would get 2008 UY points, but they can not be used until after May 1, 2009.....

I know that the Developer's points can be used at SSR within 12 months.

But when they say you can't use the 2008 UY points until May 09, does that only apply if looking to stay at AKV (because Kidani may not be built until then)? Or any DVC resort? For example, if I got points using this promotion with a April UY - would I be able to use the 2008 UY points to stay at, say Hilton Head, in March 2009?

No, you cannot do that.

DVC "members" are actually deeded owners at one of the eight DVC resorts. Of course, most people don't actually stay in the unit that they "own", instead the DVC system is set up so that all of the accommodations are pooled and we essentially share with one-another.

The problem with AKV is they are selling ownership in a building that is not yet open. Apparently it won't open until May 2009.

If you buy into the Kidani Village AKV building, you cannot use your ownership interest to share someone else's unit (at AKV or elsewhere) until the unit you legally own is added to the program. That's the rationale behind the May '09 restriction.

Yes, I'm sure many will be banking their first year's points due to that limitation. But you could almost view it as a free year's worth of points--particularly since dues don't begin until 5/1/09.

Even though I can't use the points for stays prior to May 1/09, can I still book before then for travel after May 1? Or are the points not even touchable until May 1/09?

You can book as soon as the 11 month window opens for AKV or 7 months for other resorts, but the reservation can start no earlier than the date of occupancy for your unit.

If purchasing AKV through Disney, is there a wide range of UY available? I've seen some posts that keep mentioning a June UY but not sure if that is the only ones available via the incentive package.

I'm not exactly sure of everything that is available but we just bought on Thursday & we have a Sept UY.

Were there any issues or problems as a Canadian buyer? Do we need a US bank account (i.e. not just a account in US funds, but actually at a US bank?)

I never asked nor was I told that we needed anything special but that may be b/c we aren't financing. We placed the 10% deposit & our closing costs on our credit card. Once we receive our package, we will have to send the balance of the contract via cheque in US funds.

Closing costs were around $250. And they didn't specify how quickly they needed the rest. It sounded like once we peruse & sign the final documents, we should ship them back with the cheque. So imagine you could easily take a few weeks.

I obviously wasn't asking the right questions.

According to my guide, if you are paying cash, the balance is due within 30 days. You can put the balance on a credit card (for Disney Dollars of course) by calling MS.

This is so funny, i just bought last week into promotion . My trip in December I still have to rent points for the trip. My Question with SSR Developer points do I use all the developer points then have a owner transfer points to my account to complete my ressie...How does that work I NEED MY DVC VETERANS ON THIS ONE..........Will they let me combine my points since I cant officially use my other points until June 1 2009
