So we are trying to figure this whole dining thing out here...we are thinking of doing the quick service dining plan BUT...we may be going to Unversal one or two days of the vacation...what canwe do with the extra credits? Can we double up and go to a sit down restaurant ie Tusker House? Is that possible and how many credits do you need to do this? Thanks in advance :)

If you have the Quick Service Dining Plan, you get two quick service meal credits and one snack credit per day. The amount of credits you're provided is actually based on the number of nights you'll be staying at your Disney resort. For instance, if you're staying at a Disney resort for six nights, you get 12 QS credits and 6 snack credits. You are allowed to use these from the moment you check in until midnight on the day you check out. You don't need to use one each day - you can use your credits in any combination you wish (three QS credits one day, none the next day, one QS credit the day after that... etc.).

As such, if you skip a day of credits for your Universal days, you just have extra credits for your other Disney days. :-)

Unfortunately, you are not able to combine credits to use them in a table service restaurant. If you'd like a plan where you can use them in a table service location, you'll need to get the Disney Dining Plan (1 TS, 1 QS, and 1 Snack per day) or the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan (3 TS/QS and 2 snacks per day). You are also welcome to pay for any extra meals out of pocket.

I would recommend taking a look at menus to see if a dining plan is the best option for you. The quick service dining plan doesn't tend to have much "savings" (especially if you're not a fan of dessert), and the Disney Dining Plan may have some savings if you have a lot of expensive buffet or character meals planned. I used the DxDDP once and did enjoy it, but we now go to just as many restaurants but pay OOP. Some folks just like to have the dining plan to feel like everything is "paid for" and not have to worry about it for the vacation, which may be a good reason, too.

Happy planning! :flower:

Simplygoofy thank you so much for explaining that to me..made it all really clear...we are not big fans of dessert at all and I have picky kids..I usually end up sharing a meal with my 6yr old as he eats very little. Im thinking the DDP may not be the best option for us after all as we like to do half quick service and half sit down. Again thank you..you rock :)

Did QSDP for 12 days and kept every receipt. We broke even within dollars. But considering we never order desserts - we'd rather pick up fun snacks in between meals if hungry, we don't order drinks - we prefer ice water, we rarely use our refillable mug ..... we lost money had we eaten our usual style. And by day 5 I was over it and wanting a table service meal. Unless you are getting it free, I don't think it's a value.

2 QS does NOT equal a TS.
thats not how it works.
if you're going to universal then maybe eat a QS meal for breakfast and then go to universal and eat lunch there and then eat a QS for dinner when you get back to your resort.
or eat an extra QS meal on another day.

it's pretty difficult to make your purchases on the quick service dining plan exceed the amount paid for the plan in the first place. Especially with a family that typically skips dessert and shares meals. Breakfast is one of the worst values on the quick plan because when your order breakfast with a credit, you lose the dessert option entirely and they don't give you anything to make up for that.

I have the DDP planned for our december trip but looking at the meal planner we will not break even. So if free dining comes out we will do it, if not I'll just pay out of pocket.
