Hi,
I am at BCV right now in a one bedroom and trying to connect two laptops to a 4 port hub that I brought with me and it will not allow me to do this. It will only allow one computer at a time. I've read that others have been able to connect (wired) more than one computer at the same time. What am I doing wrong?? Could someone tell me exactly how to do this. TIA

is that a USB switching hub?

I believe you need either a router or you need to designate one of the 2 laptops to actually connect to the WAN. That way your 2nd laptop could connect to the internet through the primary laptop.

HTH

What you need is a router, not a hub. A router will assign each laptop its own ip address to connect to your local network, while using the one Disney-assigned ip address to connect to the internet. The hub, on the other hand, just connects each laptop to Disney, working like a splitter. Each laptop wants to have its own ip address, but Disney will only assign one ip address per room.

Basically, you can't do what you want to do with the equipment you have.

Look for a 5" x 5" x 2" box by the desk or behind the sofa in the living room. Many of the resorts have a hard wired multi port router already there.

My experince in 2 rooms this past summer was that they have all ports on their router disabled except the one connected to the wall jack.

Thanks for the replies, I thought I read here a while ago about someone taking a hub and that's why we brought one but I guess that it won't work! Darn!

Really... we have successfully used more that one port in the past. I don't remember which resorts though.

If they both have wireless you might be able to connect the second through the first. I bought a travel router for such a purpose and to have wireless. I'd try the ports on the wired hub as that might work. Even if they have it limited you might be able to call their tech support and get that changed so you can connect both. There may be multiple places to connect and though my experience is that only the one in the LR is active, it's worth a try. Just call and make sure you won't have multiple charges if you do figure it out.

Dean,
Which model of router do you use? (Do you have one that is smaller for traveling?)

D-Link DWL-G730AP Wireless Pocket Router/AP w/ Client Mode, 802.11g, 54Mbps was the one I bought. Many use the apple one but even though I'm an apple person through and through, this one was a better choice for us. Actually smaller and lighter overall. The one problem I had with the airport express was you have to have software on the computer to configure it and I use a work computer that I can't modify in anyway. Apparently you could configure it from home and as long as you didn't have to change anything you'd still be OK but I didn't want to take the chance. The one I bought can be used for one or multiple computers. It's also cheaper than the apple.

Dean,
Thanks! Do you have to configure it with a laptop or can you just plug it in and it works like magic?

Normally if you just plug it in and select the appropriate switch, it will work just fine. You can configure it with a browser, unlike the Apple airport express from what I'm told. If you have a router or DSL at home, just try it at home to make sure all is working before it becomes critical.
