I have a medium sized collapsable cooler. It's great to take on trips because it is easy to pack, but the bottom gets wet so quickly when filled with cold stuff. Are some brands of collapsable coolers better than others? Did I just get a bad one? (I'd love to take one to WDW instead of paying $10 a day for a fridge.)

I wish I could help you more, I'm drawing a blank on the name of mine - it's California ______ from Target. I bought it a couple years ago & it's great, no leak through or wetness on the outside at all and it keeps ice for a LONG time.

I won another brand in a raffle and it doesn't do well at all, within a couple hours the bottom is soaked.

Good luck

we have a smaller "artic cooler" that we bought from Target...it used to "leak a bit " when we used ice but now

we usually, freeze 500 ml water bottles for "ice" and then they also become our "ice cold water" later

doing this there is not as much wetness as when you use "ice" since the ice melting procuces water that remains in the "bottle"
of course this all depends if you have access to a " fridge" or "freezer" which we usually do since we stay in "timeshares" mostly

but even the little fridge we had this weekend at Comfort Suites froze the water....

We always take our collapsable cooler. We take gallon size zip lock bags (I prefer Hefty and I double them) and put the ice in them instead of directly into the cooler. We never have a problem with "water or wetness" in the bottom. It's much less messy too.

We bag our ice too to alleviaTe wetness.

Wow Thats a great tip.. Ive never thought of that. But not only keeping things dry, But how easy would it be to change the ice.. Thanks for the tip :)

We got ours from Kohls. It has a zip out clear plastic lining and has never leaked. It also has wheels and a handle so it rolls like a carry on bag. Usually we pack it in a suitcase on the way to wherever, then fill it with dirty clothes and check it on the way home. It is a nice size for a family picnic.

Mine is California _____ too. I got it from sears and it has not given me a problem for 6 years.

CALIFORNIA INNOVATIONS...

I got mine from QVC few years back, it comes with a detachable plastic insert with velcro inside so you only have to pull this to remove the water, it doesn't leak any water and comes with two ice packs. I use mine all the time, for the beach, travel, even in the summer when I go to the supermarket I take mine for icecream and anything that I think will spoil with the heat...

I bought 2 sizes of the CALIFORNIA INNOVATIONS collapsable coolers at Sears and never had any touble with either one.

The large one has the wheels and handle, what a back saver that is when loaded!!

The other one is smaller it holds six diet cokes standing and 4 across the top and it has an insulated front pocket and then a small web pouch. The small one we take everwhere. I can only drink diet soda. So I carry my own, even to my girl friends house! She can't drink soda's.

We have never had a wet bottom on them. Although I do remember 1 time when my Dd laid the small one on its side and Dh had put loose ice in it and the melted ice leaked thru the zipper!! That was when we started putting all our ice for the coolers in zip locks.

But now if the soda's are already cold, i don't bother with ice the small bag keeps them cold even when Dd doesn't zip it closed!!

Collapsable coolers are a great!!

are you allowed to take the small collapsable coolers into the parks?
Yes, but carry them into the park if you have the wheels. Some folks have reported being stopped for the roll in coolers and roll in backpacks. They were told that only strollers/wheelchairs etc were allowed to be "rolled".

If you have a Tuesday Morning store near you, I noticed yesterday that they have a very nice cooler with wheels and a handle for $19.99. I already have one (that I paid more for) or would have bought one. I didn't mash on it to see how well it would collapse.
