Question about changing resorts

Hi all! I am not a DVC member, but have rented points several times and I had a quick question. At what point after a reservation is made, can you change resorts? Is it ever possible or is there a certain deadline? Just curious!

Subject to availability, you could (theoretically) change to another DVC resort starting at 7 months out from your reservation for a resort that is not the member's home resort. However, when renting, that could get complicated because a different resort could use more or less points that you have already paid to rent from the member.

So you might need to pay to rent more points. And the member may not have any more points.

If it's less points, the member may not want to change because it is possible they may be beyond their banking window for the year for those points and they would become unusable to the member. If it's less than 30 days out, then those points would go into holding which is very problematic for the member due to the restrictions on how those points could be used in the future.

So if you are a member, it's not a problem if there are rooms to switch to. As a renter, you are making it much more complicated for the member in many cases and they may not be willing to do that for you.

Thank you so much! Def don't want to make it difficult for the owner and I do not believe the resort I was thinking of is available anyway!

What does your contract say about making changes?

:earsboy: Bill

Bill,

I would guess it says no changes but I couldn't check it bc I am in WDW right now :)

It really wasn't a big deal, I just realized BLT would probably have been a better choice bc we are doing the Marathon Relay and I am not really looking forward to taking a bus to MK at 4:30 AM and sitting in the parking lot for 3 hours. However, BLT is not available anyway, so I am just gonna have to take a blanket and pillow for a nap!

We started waitlisting BLT (one bedroom lake view) in late August last year for the marathon. It never came through.
