With all of the security equipment they use in airports, is it safer to put your camera and film in your carry-on luggage or in your regular luggage? I'm not sure and i don't want to ruin all of my film before i even set foot on Disney property. Thanks!!!!

When we checked in at the MPLS airport the sign on the counter said remove all film and video tapes. Well, in my carryons I had a camcorder, camera, tapes and film When we got to security the guy said if the film is 800 speed or higher--then we shouldn't put it through the machine. Ours was 400...I got my film back and watched the videos and it was all good.

Here's the advice from Kodak: http://www.kodak.com/cluster/global/en/service/tib/tib5201.shtml

Basically, there's a good chance your film will be ruined if you place it in your checked luggage. There is very little chance that carry-on scanners will ruin your film, unless it's very high speed film or your going to have it scanned lots of times. If you're really, really fearful that the carry-on scanner will harm your film, the law (in the US anyway) requires the inspectors to hand check your film if you request it.

Don't put film or loaded cameras in checked baggage, the X-ray machines down there will spoil the film.

Don't put camcorders or cameras or other expensive gear in checked baggage, they may get stolen down there.

X-ray machines won't hurt digital cameras or video tapes.

The latest word I have is that film, regardless of speed, should not go through any Xray machines more than about four times.
