My dd and I are taking an unexpected trip to WDW in April. When we have gone before it was with the family. Now it will be just the two of us and I don't want to rent a car because we only will be there 4 nites. Which would be better, a cab or towncar. If a towncar, do they automatically come and pick you up at the hotel to get you back to the airport on time? Do people sometimes get stranded? Thanks

HI. I would say that a towncar would be the most efficient and exciting way to get back and forth from the hotel. If money is your concern, it may be a little expensive for just two people, though. I think it just depends on what you want. If your DD is young, it could be fun to have her name on the card when the towncar people wait for you near baggage claim. I had a friend who did that and her daughter was thrilled to see her name. I think they used Tiffanytown car. We have used Tiffany three or four times and they have been on time, every time. Most times they are early. We have had our planes be early (20 - 30 minutes early) and tiffany has always been standing there. A towncar will probably run you anywhere from $85-120 before tip. I do not know what a taxi service will charge.

The taxis however are wonderful if you are staying at a Disney resort. They are always available. We recently took one from PORFQ to Seaworld and it was so nice to call down to bell services and they had a taxi waiting for us in less than five minutes. Sorry I can't help with prices for the taxis, but I thought they were easy to use.

Just a quick plug for TiffanyTowncar too. We had Paul and he was wonderful. Tiffany allows a short stop to the Publix and we used this for me to buy soda and water. It was raining the day we arrive (2-27-05) and Paul met me at the door of the store with an umbrella and helped me carry my groceries to the van (we needed a van due to 4 people and lots of bags).

He was there at 4:30 to pick us up on the departure day. How nice to not have to worry about driving in a location that you are unfamiliar with. We will use them again. They were great.

Thank you very much, think the town car sounds good. What about a tip? How much do you give the driver?

We use town cars every time we fly to WDW. Lately I have been using Trio Trans, whom I was turned onto by AKL Concierge planners who booked them for me in Oct. 2003. I've used them ever since. Their cars are very nice as are the drivers.
We've used Happy Limo as well. Also Mears for town car service. All have been good.
I wouldn't worry about getting stranded :wizard:

My wife and I have used a town car service on our last 2 trips and it is a wonderful way to go. We have had great service with the drivers meeting us at the airport on time and then just as planned for the return. Last summer we used FL Tours (there is a link to their web site on the home page of this site and I think they are a sponsor of this site) It is not the cheapest way to go but in our opinion definately the most relaxing.

We just returned last week from a week at the Beach Club, and we used Tiffany Towncar for the first time. They were great. When we came down the escalator to pick up our bags, there was our driver with our name on a card waiting for us. We went directly to BC, did not need grocery stop, paid $90, used coupon from website, and tipped for that part of the trip. Picked us up on time a week later! My DH commented to the driver that we had used many different forms of transportation, such as cabs and bus, but this was by far the best. :cool1: We will use them again, no question about it!

You should post this on the transportation board....LOTS of good info there

Jimmy from Golden Limo was fantastic! I have also used Happy Limo without a problem. In almost all cases of getting a limo service I have requested a towncar. Many of those times I have been upgraded to a limo for free. They (town car services) will set up your pick up with plenty of time to make your check in. Most will also allow you to have a quick grocery stop to pick up the essentials.

So are there any other fees on top of the charge I see for towncars.. I thought I read somewhere that there can be a $9.00 resort entrance fee and even a $10.00 airport fee?? Trying to figure out entire cost!!

we took a cab ( a dirty van) last wednesday from the airport to Doubletree near universal (we had turned in our rental car and our flight was canceled due to bad weather)
It's about 12 miles one way and the cab was $39 (one way)....I think it was $2.50 a mile plus tolls.
