We normally just bring bikes down since we loved biking around the fort, but...

My 5yr old son fell at school this week and broke his arm (again) and required surgey. Now he has a full cast on for 6 weeks.

Riding bikes aren't an option for him anymore and we are thinking about towing our golf cart down there but we don't know the rules/requirements on what the golf cart has to have to be 'approved'. Are there any rules/regulations on what you can bring and are there any registration fees for it? Does it have to have headlights etc?

Thanks for any info. Heading down in less than a week.

... it does have to have lights.
Here is a scan of the cart rules at the bottom of this thread:

Thanks for the response. I see it says you have to have your headlights on if you are driving at night. Am I missing where it says you have to have them period? I may be missing it. Haven't had too much sleep the last few nights at the hospital. Thanks.

I read through it myself to double check and didn't see where lights were required in the daytime.

But you might get caught coming back late from a park and no way to drive the cart back to your site and you are stuck taking a bus.

You need tail lights too which sometimes makes no sense when you have people on the back and their legs are blocking them. No headlights are required in the daytime. I put my bike light on the front Labor day to get by and not a word was said.

We got pulled over because we did not have our lights on. It was dusk.

Having a cart at FW is great. Hope your son is ok.

If you only use it during the day, no lights required. but at night you have to have both headlights and taillights. But I have seen plenty of people driving with not tail lights. Just depends on how busy it is. If you don't have lights a light kit can be purchased for less that 100 dollars. IT is an easy installation.

Have fun at the for and hope your sons arm get better fast.

Thanks for all the replies and the concerns for my son. Yeah he should be fine. Unfortunately this isn't the first time he has broken his arm. He had both arms in casts after surgeries in Feb & March of 2007 from two seperate accidents a month apart.

He is still in some pain but is getting back adjusted. We are also looking into options to keep the cast dry while he is at the fort and at WDW. We are looking into some type of cover. We have found one that we think we will use for him. http://www.drycorp.com/content/cast-bandage-protector-information/index.html

It looks like it will work. If anyone here has used this product or something similar then let us know.

After discussing it with my parents who will also be down there with us we have decided to just rent one for the entire trip. It will be worth it I am sure.

Less than a week we should be down there. We just told the 3 kids yesterday that we were going. They are very excited. We always keep it a secret until we are about ready to leave so they can actually get some school work done without always thinking of the trip (like I do)....

Maybe we will some some DIS'ers around the campground.

All I have been able to figure is that this falls under the rules of the road. vehicles in florida are required to have certain equipment. I have never had anything said to me ( We have headlights but, no tail lights ) but I do have reflectors. I plan on having taillights before our next trip. I could be wrong but, this is my guess.
