Question about borrowing points after resale

We are considering a 150pt contract at VWL that is an August UY but no points available until Aug 2014. We want to go in Nov 2014 so I thought we could buy now and then borrow the points so I could book the trip in Dec 2013. I read somewhere that if you buy resale and there are no points available until next UY you can't borrow them in the current year. Is this true?

A trip in Nov 2014 would be using Aug 2014 points. You don't have to borrow unless your trip will be more than 150pts. In which case you'd be borrowing Aug 2015 points. It's not the date of booking, it's the date of the reservation.

Thank you! I knew I was confused. So in Dec 2013 I will be able to book my trip using my 2014 points. I thought they needed to be available at the time of booking, not time of traveling.

You need to have the points available to make the reservation, but based on the date of your reservation.

That is NOT correct. There is no difference in banking and borrowing between resale and direct points.

They will be available at the time of booking, points are loaded into your account years in advance, not when the use year starts. I have an April use year and if I look at my account online I have 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 loaded.
