Can you play a blue ray dvd in a regular dvd player. I see that a blue ray dvd will be on sale for black friday cheaper than what the regular dvd is going for.

No, a blu ray is the next grade up. So a blu ray player can play those movies and anything down from it. But a DVD player can not play something past it's technology. Although, Target has a Sony Blu Ray wireless ready for 99$ on BF.

Blu-ray discs and DVDs are two different things. As Sandra mentioned, Blu-ray players can play DVDs, but DVD players can not play Blu-ray discs. Blu-ray players are getting more and more affordable, so if you need (or want) a new player, it's worth looking into Blu-ray instead of DVD since it can play your current library of DVDs and also any Blu-rays you might decide to get. Since many movies now come in combo packs that include the movie on both DVD and Blu-ray, those might be good options if you plan to get a Blu-ray player sometime in the near future but you want to be able to watch the movies on DVD in the meantime.
