Question about banked points

I have points banked that become available in April. Do I have to wait for then to book a stay in September, or can I use them to book now. I would be within the 7 month window???

If I understand you, you banked points into the next use year which starts in April. Right? If this is the case, then yes you can book a Sept trip right now. It doesn't matter about the 7 month window unless you are using them to book somewhere other than your home resort. If April starts your use year , then you can use those banked points from April this year until March 31, 2009. Just make sure when you book your trip you ask them to use the banked points. They are suppose to do that, but it sure doesn't hurt to remind them.

If it is your home resort, you could have booked last October. If it is not your home resort, you can book it this month.

I have always mistaken that rule!!! Im glad I finally asked. I always thought I had to wait until the points became available to book them. Thanks for the help. I want to stay at a resort that is not my home resort so Im not too far past the 7 month window. Thanks again for the clarity!

here's a slightly different question:

If I have a June UY, and have already banked my 2007 points, then decide to take a trip before June, can I "borrow" points from 2008 to make the trip? Or will they "borrow" the 2007 points that I banked? Or can I not do this at all?

You can borrow from UY 08 for a trip that begins before June 1 08. Banking points is a final transaction. They can't be un-borrowed.

That's a common misconception. Points do not become "available" on the first day of the use year. They are already available based on the date of your stay. If you look at your DVC account online, points for 2010 are already in your account and ready for use. For example, you could book a stay for February 2009 next month and borrow 2010 points (assuming you have a February use year, otherwise your stay would be in your 2008 use year).

Thanks to everyone for the help on this one. I just booked our vacation for September and was able to get everything I wanted. If I waited until April that may not have been possible. You guys are just so smart!

Well I have always told them to use them the very few times I had them.I would not really trust them to do it.

When I called to make my ressie, he told me the total points I had and said 120 points were banked so he was going to use those first. I never had to mention it. If they dont say anything, then I would make sure to ask them about it.
