Hi,
I am flying BA Edinburgh-Gatwick-Tampa in October. Can someone tell me if we will collect our bags again in Gatwick and re-check them, or whether once we have checked them in at Edinburgh we won't see them again until tampa? Have never done an indirect flight before so have no idea what to expect!!
Thanks in advance for any advice on this,
Rach x

Hi Rach

We are going with BA this year from EDI-LGW-MCO and unless they have changed it, you check your luggage at EDI and don't see it again until your final destination. The only time this usually changes is if you change airlines at some point, which I take it you are not.

That said, when we flew with CO (now United) last year, we did have to do a pick up and bag drop at EWR but I think that is down to clearing customs at your first port of entry in the US and you have to collect your bags to do that. It was a quick pick up and literally a drop round the corner.

But my understanding is that with BA you won't.

Same when we went with KLM from EDI via Amsterdam - never saw our luggage at Schipol.

Hey, we have done the same trip the last 2 years.
You check your luggage at Edinburgh and then collect it at Tampa.

But....can I ask your flight time and turn around at Gatwick.
We flew last year and the first flight down was delayed an hour which left us with only an hour in gatwick and our luggage never made the plane over.
It came on the same flight the next day so no biggy but just be aware.

Hi Thanks for replies,
Originally BA wanted us to get a flight from Edinburgh that got in to Gatwick at 11.20am then flying out again at 12.20pm. I felt an hour would be so stressful to change planes and as you said Scotlass, if there is any kind of delay you would be screwed! Our flight from Edinburgh is now 7.30am getting us in at 9.05. Hopefully plenty of time for breakfast etc at Gatwick before we fly out. i will just presume then that we will not have to collect and then re-check bags at Gatwick,
I will also pack a change of clothes each in hand luggage just in case!!
Thanks
Rach
