I wanted to get the AP for the discounted room, and i have just been told by a TA that "Disney requires all guests in the party be in the same package so everyone would need passes, etc." Is that true?!!!

Yes it is true. You can get either an AP room only rate OR a package not both. If you want the AP rate then buy your tickets for the rest of your party separate.

ok, so in the package they would all need AP's, but if i did it all seperately, then i only need the 1 AP and the others in my party can get MYW tickets. is that right?

You could get one AP and the rest of the party MYW tickets but you wouldn't be able to add the dining plan and you would need to book a room only reservation.

Basically by going the 1 AP and the rest MYW you will be doing things ala carte.

I was just told I would still have to get a ticket for myself even though I have an AP in order to get a package. I explained that I am going in April during Easter break when there is no AP discount but I wanted to see how much it would be to get a package with dining and she told me I would have to include myself. So basically there is no way to get dining if you have an ap.

Yup, this is how we are doing it. I got a room only with my AP and my husband and daughter will have the MYE hoppers. We decided against the dining b/c we wouldn't get good use of it.

A package requires every person to participate. In the case of the dining package, the package requires each purchase to purchase MYW and then they add the dining feature. That's the hook -- If they didn't capture park tickets, they'd lose $$ because most people would only get the dining package if they'd be spending more than that on food otherwise (some people do like the package because they like to pre-pay and/or feel free to order appet. and desserts when in a package, but majority do it to save $$).

Since you have a AP have you considered DDE? Thant is what we are going to do. If you like the sit down meals it will work out well. It also works in the value food courts and other places. It is pretty much 20% off you meal and you pick what you want.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! We have DDE and it has saved us a ton of money. In fact, even though it expires in May, I'll be renewing it and using it in Oct right along side of the DDP. Since we are DVC people, staying on points in Oct we can do the DDP. Yes, everyone in the party has to sign up for it, but I can still use the DDE card for those meals that we don't have covered with the DDP, as well as 'adult beverages'!!! I love that 20% off!!!

Some AP holders have gotten the dining package with a 1 day 1 park MYW ticket. Then they buy additional MYW tickets from Ticketmania for the rest of their family. You can get 10 day no expire tickets if you are planning additional trips to use your AP. This is for those who have big eaters in the family and do lots of sit-down meals. For my family it worked out better to get DDE.
