Question about AP discounts for early Dec.

You only pay the $50 fee if you make changes that HURT Disney's profits. You can upgrade, add days, change resorts of similiar or higher quality, etc. But when you mess with their revenue, then they charge you. To me it was worth the risk of $50 to have my $59 a night rate in place. The only way I will change is if they offer the free dining, which I seriously doubt they will.

If you want to use AAA discount to you have to book through them or can you call DW and tell them you are a AAA member?

You can call Disney and tell them you are an AAA member. Have your card ready as they will probably ask for your member number.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of this information. That sure makes a difference! :)

I am also curious about when the rates are released/how quickly they go. We, too, are planning a January trip, and are purchasing APs for the first time. (It will be worth the money, as we are making two longish trips in 06, plus some shorter ones, as well.) But how soon do we need to make reservations to hopefully apply an AP rate? We are planning to do 9 nights value/2 nights deluxe.

Hi,

Yet more AP questions (oh, how I wish the Disney site spelled all this out for us BEFORE we bought APs so we know what we are getting for our $395).

I do not have an AP yet and have never owned one.

1. For example, if I book POR at AP rates now for early Dec, and then notice in mid-November, AKL opens up with a great rate, can I switch that late in the game (as long as it's an upgrade) without paying the $50 change fee?

2. Can I tweak my booking until the day I leave for WDW as long as it is always upgrading or is there a cut-off date of some sort.

3. Oh, and if I downgrade and don't mind paying the $50 to do so, can I still make these changes right up until I leave for WDW? I guess I wonder if they let you tweak and tinker as long as it's always an upgrade.

4. If I book one week on AP and then decide to go the following week instead for the same price, do I have to pay $50?

Hope my questions aren't too confusing - I am confused just asking them!

Thanks,
Tink

No, 1 AP holder can book up to 3 rooms at the AP discounted rate.. assuming a discount is available when he/she makes the reservation. I'm not certain but I don't believe there are dining discounts for simply having an AP. But what an AP allows is for the AP holder to purchase the Disney Dining Experience for $50. The DDE gets you a 20% discount on food and beverages including alcohol at select locations. Here's a link to a page describing the DDE with the list of participating locations.

AP holders get 10% off at a lot of places, pretty similiar to the DDE

I was told Tinkerbellmagic, that you can change dates as well, without penalty (assuming of course the dates you pick are in the same season). As for changes close to arrival time, I am not sure of that. Will try to find out.
