Question About Annual Passes

Hello!

Going to WDW September 3-10. We purchased 6 day passes with Park Hopper option. We might book a BB if offered at that time. May be staying 5 days if we decide to do the BB. If so, would it make sense to get an Annual Pass?

And what do you do if you decide once you're there to upgrade to AP? Is there a process?

Do you anticipate going back at any point? Rule of thumb we use is, if you are going to go more than 8 days in a calendar year, get APs

To upgrade to AP just enter park and go to guest services to upgrade. Upgrading to AP makes sense if you get 2 or more trips out of it and if able to use it for room discounts. APs are almost $700 per pass.

not to highjack...but :-) Do AP holders get to take advantage of the free dining offers? I would assume not but curious to know answer...thanks

Well we were already went this past January, had I known we were going back this September for my birthday DBF surprised me I would've upgraded and booked BB. But, this September while there we are going to book BB... we have flexible schedules so we might fly down for long weekends so I'm sure more than 8 days. Just contemplating. We have a few months yet to decide.

Not with the AP discount. If you wanted to do free dining, you still have to buy the tickets. Folks have used those tickets for future trips, or have upgraded at that point to an AP, but if you are already a passholder, you can't stack the discount.

Usually, having an AP plus buying a Tables in Wonderland card to get meal discounts comes out better. The TiW discount covers apps, alcohol, everything on the bill, even if you just do apps, etc. Well worth it.

Thanks! My friend has the tiw card. I think we planning on doing the free dining this dec...I have on hold. Then at end upgrade to ap. good info!

I have a specific question on upgrading to AP's once at the park. We are a family of 3 traveling and will have a friend of my daughters with us as well. So we will all be in the same room. We are staying at least 12 nights maybe up to 14. So I'm thinking best way to do this is to get 10 day ticket with package and then change to AP's when we get there is that the best way? Also I would not be upgrading daughters friend ticket to AP as she would not be going with us on other trips in the next year. So can we upgrade just 3 of the tickets and not hers?
We are not going until May 2016 for daughter high school graduation :-)
Thanks!

Assuming 9/3 is your first park day, it will make sense to upgrade if the BB is a room-only (you don't have to buy more tickets) AND the last park day of the second trip will be on or before 9/3 of the following year.

Do AP holders get to take advantage of the free dining offers?

Sure, but you have to buy tickets.

Yes you can upgrade just some people (once you're there).

Do they include tax in the upgrade price? do they take the ticket price you paid with tax or without?

Yep, can upgrade as many (or few) people as you want. Anyone over 18 needs photo ID and you need the magic bands of anyone upgrading (regardless of age).

Yes. To figure out what I would pay to upgrade I used The price of the AP plus tax - the price I paid plus tax = what I paid to upgrade to AP.

IF you ask, it is likely that they will tell you they don't bridge prices, HOWEVER it seems that they're system automatically does it (they actually have to transfer passes to another system on their computer). So if you ASK what you will pay, it is probably/likely/possible that you will be told something different than what the computer actually says you will pay (and the computer seems to do it right, in my experience, and my experience watching other people upgrade while doing mine at the time).

So if I just the ticket price on the Disney Page and - the AP price is what I should pay? Even though I have a package?
