Question about an alarm clock...

Hi,

I know that the staterooms on the ship don't have alarm clocks. I was wondering if I could bring a plug in alarm clock that's small. I looked through at least 20 pages on

www.amazon.com , but I couldn't find anything in my price range that actually stayed lit during the night. I need to see a clock at night when I wake up for a few seconds because it makes me feel better knowing the time. I have a small plug in alarm clock that I bought about 2 years ago, but never used. I have the box and all the papers with it. Do you think that DCL would let me have it in the room? I need something and couldn't find anything on amazon. Thanks.

Yes, you can bring a plug in alarm clock. However, I wouldn't recommend it. Ship's power fluctuates periodically, so a plug in clock can lose (or even gain) time. It's possible that your clock would constantly have to be reset.

A battery powered one would be better, if you need one. We have one. But we do need to hit the button on to to make the display light up. Don't know if you can find one with the display always on as that would run the battery down faster.

That would work for you.

Look at the one I linked above. It seems to say you can set the back light to stay on.

This information is incorrect for digital clocks. Yes electrical powered mechanical clocks may show the incorrect time occasionally but that is not a problem for digital clocks.

Iris1974, i know proncessshmoo was trying to be helpful but when you think about it i would expect the crew use digital plug in alarm clocks so they wake up in time for there shifts?

Not only do they have a wake up service, but they have the BEST one--it's Mickey Mouse. My dd loved having Mickey call her each morning to wish her a happy morning.

I keep my iphone plugged in all night by the bed on the night stand and use an app called Clock Radio that has a great digital readout. You can set alarms and/or just have the time displayed all night. I love it.

I don't recall ever not having a clock in our cabins. They are digital. I don't remember ever using the alarm feature but they certainly are lit all night unless you dim them. In fact, the last few cruises I haven't been able to figure out how to dim them. We have not sailed on the Dream but on all other DCL ships.

They've been removing the clocks from the rooms for the last year or so. When they replaced the propeller clock with the digital ones, they picked one that's really difficult to understand how to operate. The display can be dimmed (or even turned off) but, there's really no instructions on how to do it.

That would work for you.

I have that clock. Always use it when traveling, both on land and at sea . I remove the batteries between trips, and carry a spare set. I have not yet had to replace the batteries, after at least 45 days and nights of hotel stays and cruises. As noted, the backlight has an autoadjust setting which extends battery life since it is not lit during the daytime. It also has a temperature display, switchable between deg. C and deg. F. I also find that useful.

We brought an alarm clock just to have a clock in the room I could see during the night. My daughter is scared of having a room with a verandah so we always get an interior room and it looks the same at 2pm as it does at 2am so we use the alarm clock as a "clock" and our phones as alarms.
