DgrD brought home an AG catalog today and she is very interested in getting one for Christmas. We have looked thru the catalog and we have found all sorts of things for the dolls - but, we haven't found the price of the actual doll. Am I missing something?? She is interested in Kit, but we don't know the starting price, before the extras. She is thinking of having her parents get the doll and the other relatives getting the extras as her Christmas gifts. I looked at the web-site, but that wasn't much help either.

Any info is appreciated!

the price should be in the catalog.

i think (has been awhile since i ordered one, LOL) that they are around $100.

found this:

Kit Doll & Book
$84 QDP Kit Doll & Paperback Book
$90 QDH Kit Doll & Hardcover Book
$106 QDBP.53573 Kit Doll & Paperback Book Set
$146 QDBH.53581 Kit Doll & Hardcover Book Set
$108 QDBA Kit Doll & Story Collection

Your Kit® doll arrives dressed in a lilac sweater set and floral linen skirt, with white cotton underwear and white sandals. Her bright blue eyes open and close, and she has a sprinkling of freckles across her nose! She is 18 inches tall and has a soft, huggable body with arms and legs you can pose. Pull her shoulder-length blond hair off her forehead with a barrette in a double-diamond shape.

Kit comes with a Meet Kit book, Kit’s Book Set (all six of her books in an attractive slipcase), or Kit’s Story Collection, a special hardcover edition that includes all six of Kit’s stories.

Under the Meet Kit heading on the right hand side. In green ink it says Kit Doll and Book. Below that after the description are the prices. There's a price for the doll with the hardback book that tells Kit's story and there's a price for the doll with the paperback book. They're $90 and $84 respectively. My nieces love the AG dolls. The youngest, Hannah, will be 8 at the end of December and is begging Santa to bring her the new Bitty Twins!

BTW, the 18" AG dolls (like Kit, Molly, etc.) can wear the My Disney Girl clothing that you can buy to go with the new doll available at WDW. We bought Tinkerbell, Belle and Sleeping Beauty outfits while we were there this summer.

The price with a soft cover book is $84.00. I just bought Molly this past weekend at The American Girl Place in Chicago. Let me know if you have any other questions!!

Thanks for the info! Guess we need to look at the catalog again. :D I think we were missing the price for the doll because it was listed with the book.
Now I understand this whole concept better. DgrD is 9 & is very interested in the dolls. I am really out of the loop. ;)

Thanks again to all of you. Very helpful info. I'll pass the info along to Em & her mom. I told her we could find just the answers we needed on this board. :teeth:

is the thorough history Pleasant of the original "Pleasant Company" research on each doll's timeframe. My sister has graduate degrees in history and lives near the "hometown" of the original company (recently bought by Mattel). She's in the past been involved in doing a bit of research for them for historial accuracy in details as small as a quilt pattern in a story.

If you granddaughter falls for an AG doll she will probably know lots about the time period in which that doll/girl lived. Megan, my niece, is well schooled in what happened during Molly's young life. She wasn't always excited about reading but give her one of the AG books and she wouldn't put it down.

DgrD & I just found all the info she needs, thanks to all of y'all. She is very excited!
Great to know she can get the Disney outfits to fit Kit. I see another trip to WDW in our future!
She will love the idea of knowing the dolls history. What a great idea these dolls are.

Thanks again~

Poohstyx, you will be a pro at this in no time:D My niece has all the dolls and we love buying accessories for bday or Christmas. In fact I'm thinking of getting Kiersten in her Santa Lucia outfit for myself:D P.S. the books have very nice stories

Just chiming in to say I LOVE the American Girls! My mom has bought me at least one AG item for every birthday and Hanukkah since I was 9 years old. They really make the past come alive. I own 5 of the dolls, and they probably have more clothes than I do. I just got Kit's bedroom collection for my 21st birthday a few weeks ago. :) Her books have gotten me quite interested in the Depression.

I had three American Girls dolls when I was little (Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly), and I loved them! They will be a great gift for your granddaughter. :)

Another place to get American Girl sized stuff at non-AG prices is Target! We got both girls trunks for their dolls for around $30, much less than AG. They have furniture too. We also have some local crafters who make AG clothes, but I haven't found one with decent quality yet. I just ordered DD#1 (who has an "American Girl of Today" that looks just like her) and DD#2 (who has Kit) two outfits each for Christmas.

Make sure to either get her the books or get them at the Library. They are GREAT stories. I have never read a bad AG book. I have even cried at a few! They make history come alive. (Can you tell I'm learning a lot?!)
DD has Kit also. They are wonderful dolls. How exciting!

I love the American Girl dolls too! In fact, AngieBelle and I met on an AG message board. I have Molly and will soon receive Josefina, for free! A friend is giving me her extra Josefina doll, so I am very excited about that. My mother has Samantha and I just ordered Addy as her big Christmas gift. Even though we are both grown "adults," we really bond over AG stuff.

The books are wonderful. I fell in love with Molly as a child and bought all her books with my spending money. Then after staring at a the catalogues for twelve years, Molly finally arrived for Christmas two years ago. I hope that your granddaughter will enjoy Kit as much as I enjoy Molly.

My girls have Samantha and Josephina and are drooling over Kaya the american indian doll. While the story books are nice, my DD still didn't want to read them so I bought the book that gives an overview of the era in pictures. She pours over these books, eagerly reading the captions. The pictures make the story books more "real". Very nice books, well worth the money.

We just received Josephina for our DD , Elly, who turns 10 tomorrow! This will be her first AG doll. Pretty expensive!

DD has both a Bitty Baby and an American Girl Today doll that looks like her. She loves them and still plays with them every day. She's had them for about 2 years now. She loves the books and spends lots of time learning about the different historical periods in which the dolls lived.

Some of the more inexpensive things we've gotten that she's loved are the hair kits. One has a hairdressing "apron" and brushes, etc. The other is different hair accessories. She and her best friend (she has Kit) do their doll's hair and use them as students in their class when they play teacher.

However, DO NOT buy the AG cleaner from the catalog. All it is is baking soda in a sprinkle container. Maybe about 2 ounces of it. While it does clean the dolls terrifically -- we didn't realize how dirty they were -- it's cheaper to buy the 50 cent box of Arm and Hammer than the $10 sprinkler.

Otherwise, I have to say the dolls have been worth every penny.
